Cigs will never be banned because they have social status

    Cigs will never be banned because they are a personal choice so Conservativces won't push it and they are a source of tax revenue so Dems won't push it.

    Since Dems have no moral base and no overarching system of beliefs beyond getting more tax dollars and spending even more than they get, this will preserve smoking forever.

    As long as the government can collect large amount of taxes on cigarettes, they will never be banned.

    BTW. It was "hemp". Cannabis of any sort.
    Ironically the (now useless) constitution is printed on hemp paper.

    Also, let us not forget their incredible army of lobbists.

    Banning cigarettes is tough than banning alcohol--in fact the Tobacco companies uses the Beverage companies history as a rallying cry against banning.

    Depends how you define social status and what social structure you live in. Marijuana has social status and it is banned. The dirty little secret is that the government makes so much money from so-called "sin-taxes" that they can't outlaw the product.
