Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), has introduced the Sensible Adoption for Every (SAFE) Home Act, aimed at preventing child welfare agencies from denying prospective adopters who disagree with a child’s LGBTQ status, including medical treatment inconsistent with their biological sex.

This comes after the Department of Health and Human Services announced a rule to ensure LGBTQI+ youth are placed in accepting environments.

“The Biden administration is cruelly preventing countless children in the foster care and adoption system from going to loving homes just because parents are opposed to irreversible sex change procedures on kids,” Banks said.

The rule “would require that child welfare agencies ensure that each child in their care who identifies as LGBTQI+ receive a safe and appropriate placement and services that help them thrive.”

Not all Christians oppose and reject gay and trans kids or reject them for who they are. More importantly, the vast majority of children who are free for adoption are not gay or trans.

Matching adoptive parents to children is a complex and lengthy process that is overseen by mental health professionals and social workers experienced in adoptions matters. I know. I was a social worker in an adotion agency

Adopting a child is not like going to the local animal shelter and picking out a dog. Children and prospective adoptive parents are given time to develop a relationship. There are extended pre-placement visits. Any child old enough to talk is given an opportunity to express how they feel about the new family.

Does anyone really think that the law should mandate that an adoption agency must approve an adoption when a chid does not feel accepted and loved for who they are, and where the adoptive family does not respect the identity of the child? This law proposed by Banks basically says that the agency must say “ Well kid, they want you so this is where you have to go.....your needs and feeing do not matter. ” The government has no business sticking It's nose into the process . The best interest of the child is always first and formost and this ignorant and misguided legislation is not in their best interest


Those ”loving homes" that Banks claims are being denied the ability to adopt some children would in fact be hell hole for gender non conforming, trans and gay kids who would be driven to despair and suicide at the hands of Christo Fascist adaptive parents. Kids may well be subjected to abusive convergence therapy, denied gender affirming care, or otherwise try to “fix or “cure “ these kids because of their bigoted theocratic beliefs

The DHHS rule as written is absolutly necessary andappropriate as written. Children must be provided age appropriate care and support. Young children are not going to be subjected to gender reassignmnet or any radical irreversable proceedures. Care is always in keeping with best mental health and medical practices
