Chalking tires unconstitutional

~~~~~~
It doesn't matter in NYC now. A toll surcharge of $12.00 is to be placed on all vehicles that enter Manhattan below 60th Street. If you park on the street that will cost you an additional starts at $165 and goes higher. No need for chalk marks there....
One more reason not to go to NYC
To be fair you have to be crazy to drive into manhattan for work if all you are going to do is sit in an office for 8-10 hours.
What I want to see is the first day this goes into effect the entire mass transit system grinds to a halt because of the sudden surge in ridership.
You couldn't pay me enough to commute to Manhattan every day.
Mass transit isn't bad from where I live. I have a few options, bus/train, walk/train, walk/bus/train, express bus.
Yeah I don't do public transportation
~~~~~~
You have to plug your nose to use the subway system. The odor of bodily fluids is high... Seems the mayor doesn't care.

It's all what you are used to. I've been taking NYC buses and trains to get places since high school.

~~~~~~
I remember when taking the train, bus or trolley cost five cents... When I was in junior High it went to a dime..... Guess I'm old and decrepit if I can remember that far back....
Chalking is old school, plate scanners are used now.
You know those “privacy screens” people place over their monitors so the person next to them can’t read their computer. Yeah... Those things fix ones problems with plate readers too...
If you can't read the plate that's a ticket of a different kind.
It can be read from behind, but it still requires human eyes to actually look at and read your tag, and enter the info. Cops with plate readers often run on auto pilot so to speak, and just wait on the computer to alert them. But yeah... use it at your own discretion...
I was thinking of walking meter readers with plate scanners.
I'd rather drive myself and put up with traffic and other hassles than ride the bus or a subway
They mainly do it in areas with meters, but to enforce the "maximum parking time".
It's to prevent people from running out every 2 hours (if the area is a 2 hour max) and feeding the meter for another 2 hours.
Shouldn’t matter as long as you are paying
What if you are working?
For thirty years I worked in Jersey and lived in Queens. I've commuted up to 30 miles round trip a day for some jobs I worked at. Unless I was working in South Jersey my trip consisted of driving through Manhattan to the Lincoln Tunnel to get to work. UGH!!
I just started a job in Bergen by Teterboro, commuting from Queens. 17 miles total, GW is the best way to go so far.
That reason also goes for the four other boroughs of NYC.
I only drive for work because I have multiple sites I have to visit most days (Queens and Brooklyn)
When I have to go to my main office (Downtown Manhattan) I take a combination of bus and trains.
~~~~~~
My daughter does the same and the price of the direct buses is costly as compared to the trains.

Express buses are more expensive, but some people find them worth it.

I usually don't.

It's gotten worse. usually you only ran into a hobo car like once every few months, now I run into one about 1 time in 10 trips.

It was a dollar when i started using it, but I had a subway pass in high school for free rides, and a 1/2 price bus pass for the bus.

I only use mass transit for riding into manhattan for work, and usually the "going to the bar" part of my evening.

The way home is usually an uber.

That's a tough 17 miles. Do you use the Triborough to East river drive to the GWB?

Tempest in a teapot.

Once AOC is President-Uber-Alles there'll be no need to chalk tires as there won't be any motorized vehicles to wear tires. Imagine, though, how easy it will be to find a parking space when you doin't have anything to park in it!

I work construction, so i try to get in at or before 7 AM. Triboro to Deegan is quicker at that time. The place I am working at is 15 minutes off the bridge just off route 46.

What are you smoking Buddy. I have not see or heard of a Cop marking tires. I did bring back thought of the Fat Cop in my hometown marking tires with a chalk on a stick. They got parking meters, and now I understand they did away with them since the downtown area died.
They do it in areas without meters but 30 min parking signs or some similar restriction
