Can Capitalism and Democracy Coexist?

"The images that unfettered capitalism leaves to the world are sinister:

  1. Of course that borders on insanity. China just switched to capitalism and instantly eliminated 40% of world poverty.

  2. Do you see why we are positive the liberalism is based in pure ignorance? Is any other conclusion possible?

Do you see why capitalism will always destroy democracy?

capitalism is 100% concerned with survival. A capitalist survives only by having the the best price and product in the entire world and thereby lifting 100's of millions out of poverty. Capitalism has no relationship with democracy let alone an ability to destroy it. Thats idiotic liberalism.
Are we discussing "capitalism" or "really existing capitalism?"
"The term 'capitalism' is commonly used to refer to the U.S. economic system, with substantial state intervention ranging from subsidies for creative innovation to the 'too-big-to-fail' government insurance policy for banks.

"The system is highly monopolized, further limiting reliance on the market, and increasingly so: In the past 20 years the share of profits of the 200 largest enterprises has risen sharply, reports scholar Robert W. McChesney in his new book 'Digital Disconnect.'”

The rich have killed capitalism...what comes next?

"More than 850 million hungry people in the world, almost 200 million more than those who existed 30 years ago;
  1. Life expectancy of the poorest in the world continues to be the same as it was in 1977, that is 44 years of age;
  2. Approximately 1.3 billion people live in conditions of poverty;
  3. There are close to 230 million unemployed in the world, 40 million more than there were 30 years ago;"
Evo Morales Ten commandments against capitalism for life and humanity

  1. Approximately 1.3 billion people live in conditions of poverty;

China just eliminated 40% of the worlds poverty overnight by switching to capitalism. A liberal will be too stupid to know it, let understand it.
Life expectancy of the world's poorest citizens hasn't changed since 1977...44 years of age.

of course thats 100% impossible since under liberalism 65 million slowly starved to death while under capitalism that many now buy cars!

If one equates capitalism with free markets, it can only coexist with democracy if state power is constitutionally prevented from interfering in our economic decisions.

Can we accomplish such a revolutionary change by "choosing" between Republican OR Democrat in the voting booth?
I don't see how.
I don't either, and my ballot for next Tuesday's "election" doesn't offer any third party alternatives for Senate and House races or for state assembly and senate contests; in fact, state senate and assembly races offer a "choice" between two Democrats in my district. Since California is blue along the coast and blood-red inland, I suspect districts sixty miles east of mine have a "choice" between two Republicans. Does this get any better or...?

Its like scuba diving with a bottle either half full or half empty. Dems are half full believing there bottle will get totally empty and will drown Reps believe there bottle is half full and will swim to the top and fill up the bottle. As there are many choices in life the negative ones destroy any chance while the positive ones will achieve what you wish.
But here this-- as Dems believe they can force the 1%ers to give up there share they are now 6 years into Obama and wealthier than ever before. Uh was Obama in on it probably not as most wealthy despise him, old saying the rich get richer. So as I said on this site 6 years ago he who owns the ball wins the game, all Obama did was piss them off and they took there business to a friendlier place.
Wow they got richer while the USA got poorer, Both Middle class and POOR. Total asshole with a Harvard degree. Sure does not say much about Harvard.

"The number of billionaires in the world has more than doubled to 1,646 since the financial crisis of 2009, with inequality reaching new extremes, according to a new Oxfam report on inequality.

"The combined wealth of today’s billionaires has grown by 124 percent in the last four years to $5.4 trillion, says the report published as part of Oxfam’s 'Even It Out campaign'.

"The 85 richest people saw their fortunes increase by around $240 billion over the past year, and own as much as the poorest half of the world’s population – the equivalent of $668 million per day or almost half a million dollars per minute.

"While the number of super-rich is skyrocketing, one million women have died in childbirth due to lack of basic health care, and 57 million children do not receive any form of education.

Obama, and every other politician capable of winning the US Presidency, is applauding the rise in billionaires because they depend on the moneyed elite to fund their campaigns and retirements.

"China’s growth has been so rapid that virtually every household has benefited significantly, fueling the steep drop in poverty.

"However, different people have benefited to very different extents, so that inequality has risen during the reform period.

"This is true for inequality in household income or consumption, as well as for inequality in important social outcomes such as health status or educational attainment. Concerning household consumption, the Gini measure of inequality increased from 0.31 at the beginning of reform to 0.45 in 2004.

"To some extent this rise in inequality is the natural result of the market forces that have generated the strong growth; but to some extent it is 'artificial' in the sense that various government policies exacerbate the tendencies toward higher inequality, rather than mitigate them.

"Changes to some policies could halt or even reverse the increasing inequality.[12]"

If one equates capitalism with free markets, it can only coexist with democracy if state power is constitutionally prevented from interfering in our economic decisions.
Can we accomplish such a revolutionary change by "choosing" between Republican OR Democrat in the voting booth?

of course, if Republicans were in charge you'd have virtually a revolution. Just eliminating the corporate tax and making deficits illegal would be huge!

Are you calling Dick a liberal?

Not a liberal. But he's as much a corporatist as any Democrat, yeah. I actually like liberals. Not many of those left though.
