California Held Hostage

In the early 1980s, the California State Employee Association became a local of the SEIU.

And here we are today:

"We helped to get you into office, and we've got a good memory. And come November, if you don't back our program, we'll help to get you out of office."

SEIU Threat
That is the way to do it, hold them accountable.

You realize that the biggest union with the biggest retirement paycheck in this state is the Prison Guard Union?

Yes, I do. Gray Davis did a lot of damage to the state with that bit of vote buying.

The sad "what might have been" is that if the growth in state spending had been limited to per capita adjusted inflation, we'd have a surplus. Instead, spending has grown at approximately twice that rate, expanding government's share of state GDP.

It's an object lesson for the U.S. - Obama is heading the entire country down this path.

The "accountability" to which SEIU is threatening to hold them accountable is to maintain excessive public employee union jobs and compensation packages while the state is bleeding red ink. The only way to fix the fiscal problem in CA is a big RIF of government employees and a restructuring of pension plans.

The Real Accountability the Legislature owes all of CA is resolving the fiscal problems. Instead, we are going deeper in debt to fund abusive unions.

Prop 13 and the republican party crashing the world economy for the second time in one lifetime can be credited with most of Calis problems

Prop 13 most certainly did not cause CA's problems. Given the high property values, the absolute dollars of property taxes most families pay are as high as those of most other states, despite the limitations.

Every time a house is sold, the assessed value is set at the sale price, with annual increases of 2%. On top of that, we pay one of the highest state income taxes rates in the country, as well as high sales taxes.

CA does not have an undertaxing problem - it has a spending problem.

Regarding the GOP "crashing" the economy - that is an ignorant and simplistic viewpoint (consistent with your mental capacity). There are countless mothers and fathers of this mess - it has been building for decades.

It doesn't matter really, voters have a right to expect who they support will give them what they want.

The person running for office has to decide right and wrong in that case.

Of course the SEIU thugs have the right to vote for whomever they wish.

I don't like the fact that they are using My Tax Dollars to fund the candidates that support their excessive jobs and compensation.

The idea then is to make sure the candidate knows that if he accepts the money as a payoff for the unions that everyone else will vote him out.

One would hope that would happen. With the composition of the state legislature and gerrymandered districts, that is much more difficult that it sounds.

We've crossed the tipping point where those who feed from the public trough outweigh those in the private sector whose productivity foots the bill. Again, it's a cautionary tale for the rest of the U.S. Once that equation is in place, it's nearly impossible to undo.

BULLFUCKING SHIT.....its called ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS...to the State Unions, the Illegals getting freebies,SPENDING that will not stop.....taxing and regulating the hell out of businesses, many who have left the State.....and one of the biggest problems is ...voting the same bastards in who not only got the State where it is at....but is keeping it there and is making things worse.......your a used Dildo Truth.....something you should try sometime....quit being a Hack....

Sounds like every corporation that pays into reelection campaigns in exchange for certain legislation

Damn ... Captain Obvious strikes again.

Except the corporations don't work for the state and don't have contracts with them for employment.

Someone needs to get that woman a few dozen donuts so she can chill out.

What?

Who do you suppose get those cozy contracts with the state then?

Total strangers?

Do you imagine that corporations donate to political causes out of some sense of civil responsibility?

My God, Rab, you complain about unions buying POLS, but imagine that corporations aren't doing exactly the same thing?

Corporations are not employees. Sorry.

Oh, I thought the title was referring to their Republican minority, which under CA law is able to scuttle any attempt to raise revenue (you know, the dreaded "T" word) to help pay for the services that the state is having trouble paying for.

California's GOP lawmakers should do the budget math - Los Angeles Times

you mean like putting "FEES" on things.... a 50 dollar ticket ends up costing 250.00 because of a bunch of "FEES"now imposed.....my electric bill...up because of "FEES"....gas up...same thing....luckily there is a proposition coming up in Nov.,where we get to put an end to all these new "FEES" on everything.....if the Cal. Legislature cant tax you, they will find a way to get that money....their latest scam is the "FEES" on many things....the VERY liberal Legislature says they are for the working man and the poor....but yet keep on pounding the hell out of them....if you are having troubles staying afloat....their attitude.....TOUGH FUCKING SHIT.....we got you to this point, and now we need more of your money to keep you here and make it worse.....all they know how to do is SPEND.....the words....STOP SPENDING....does not exist in Sacramento...

Very convenient blaming CA's fiscal problems on prop 13 and one political party that has very little power within the state and only slightly more on the national scene. Empty reasoning...but very convenient

Has it ever occurred to a liberal that you can actually SPEND too much money then you take in? Could it possibly make sense to a liberal that taxes act as a governor on a motor, limiting power and performance? Could a liberal actually comprehend the simple notion that excessive taxes and regulations hamper business and growth?

You do understand that CA already has one of the nation's highest tax burdens don't you?
