A couple say they have been "fined" £100 by a Blackpool hotel for leaving critical comments on travel review website Trip Advisor.

Tony and Jan Jenkinson posted the negative comment after being unimpressed with the one night they spent at the Broadway Hotel.

The couple, from Whitehaven, later found £100 charged to their credit card. The hotel said its policy was to charge for "bad" reviews.

We chose this hotel because it had 'ample parking' , car park was full so had to park across the road at another hotel.

I've been learning more about social media at work. The world of online reviews is so dirty. Yelp extorts money from companies by threatening to erase all positive reviews. That's like a mafia tactic.

Anyone can buy 'likes' on Facebook. You can hire what is called a 'click farm' to boost your status online. For example, Michelle Obama has about 2 million fake twitter followers that were purchased on the open market. That's par for the course now.

is that possible?

Probably not because a card Merchant cannot legally charge a card without the customers approval. For example, if you bought an item for £99.99 and £9.99 was rang through the machine, authorised, and you left the shop, the shop cannot legally put through a £90 charge. If they do, complain to Trading Standards and your bank and they'll get prosecuted. And to charge for a bad review, that's doubly bad.
