A while back a U.S.messageboard poster from the U.K. was asking about getting a cross bow for self defense......and we joked that eventually the fascists in the U.K. would get around to confiscating those too....and here is where it starts...they are now calling cross bows...Assault weapons....and are calling for people to need a license and a background check to get one......

There was a time when the British ban on firearms, even for its police, was compatible with its general attitude toward civil violence. But although that time has passed it seems the conditioning imparted by the gentility of their exceptionally civilized past has blinded their leadership to the ugly necessities of their contemporary reality. In spite of the fact that their once tranquil homeland has been invaded by hordes of violence-prone, generally barbaric bottom-feeders their aversion to defensive weaponry has reached the level of absurdity.

While it's true that the crossbow is a dangerous weapon its potential as such is approximately equal to that of a hatchet or a firebomb.
