They were promised untold riches but the reality of brexit means they are being undercut by cheap dirty food from overseas.

The tories lied to them. Brexit so enfeebled the UK that the tories signed shit trade deals that enabled them to import chemically enhanced products that were cheaper than homegrown produce.

Its hard to feel soeey for these clowns. I sould not pass a field in 2016 without seeing a brexit poster. I tore many down.

But they sold out their country and now they have been sold out. Now they want them some socialism to bail them out.

The EU is ro blame since they wouldn't allow the UK to protect their borders. If it would have stopped the massive illegal.immigration problem you had jn Lkndoin and elsewhere, maybe you should have left sooner, the farmers would have been able to use those tax.dollars applied to this issue.

Illegal immigration is not really a problem. And it is now a lot worse since we left the EU. I sense that you know nothing about the situation in the UK. Do some research to avoid looking stupid.

Well 100 of them may demand them some socialism, but the real problem is that the vast majority of them haven't tried to get ELM subsidies already available to them. Beyond that, they are just pinched by rising costs without rising incomes created by inflation.

I have little sympathy with them but they have a point. As a country we do not have a food plan. Food security is not a priority for the govt and neither is energy.
That is madness in putins world.

The food plan is to have less of it local grown so the birds have more hedgerows for baby making. Giving them big subsidies isn't going to result in more output. It will just reward big farms while small holdings continue to die off. Waitrose will still sell cabbages either way. They just may come from Spain instead of Cornwall.

Tommy Tainant: in countries with smaller economies, EU policies have ruined the small farmer, due to them not being able to fulfill the agricultural quotas.

One such country, there was a shortage of lamb, due to the shortage of animal feed, for instance.

And even in France, l read a novel about it once, a couple of farmers committed suicide because of Brussels’ ruinous policies

Funny how they'll still vote Tory even after being totally screwed over by them, and by their own stupidity.

Not much option.

The opposition has nothing to offer.

Better the devil you know?

Well, Labour have more to offer.

The last time they came in the NHS improved MASSIVELY, education improved MASSIVELY, crime went DOWN, gun crime was dealt with, infrastructure improved MASSIVELY.

That's not to say Labour are amazing. They're a party with a lot of problems and a better electoral system would mean they could be a more focused party instead of being anywhere between Communist and center right.

If the Tories were to get another 5 years, the UK would be moving towards second world status... literally.

We were told that there would be no lowering of food standards. That was obviously not true. We were also told everything would be cheaper. We didnt even get that.
The farmers are unsure about what they are supposed to be doing and there are post brexit shortages. Mainly soft fruit. Strawberries and cherries. My Mam fetches me cherries every week but sometimes has to go to two or three stores.

And part of it is because the war in Ukraine has sent energy prices soaring so growers in Europe cannot afford to heat their greenhouses. It will sort itself out over time.
