Brain-Eating Amoeba Found In Louisiana Water System
A potentially deadly brain-eating amoeba has been found again in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Independent testing returned positive results for Naegleria fowleri, which causes fatal brain swelling and tissue destruction, in the community of Pointe-aux-Chenes, according to WWL-TV, as well as The Courier. The Terrebonne Consolidated Waterworks District issued the notification Sunday and has temporarily switched to a different disinfectant to kill the organism.

Nothing to see here folks just move along because you can be sure it will surely stay isolated for the people of Lousiana it can never jump into other systems, travel down rivers or streams.

Why We are the super power of all countries nothing can ever hurt us nothing will ever destroy American health. ......

That's a bad amoeba. It killed somebody around here years ago. Not a good time to go swimming in lakes.

naegleria can exist in any brackish waters ----the meningitis is typically
contracted by jumping into the infected waters-----which get into the
nasal sinuses and thence intracranial. It is not a virus-----it is an ameba--and not transmitted easily -----NOT AN EPIDEMIC thing

The biggest threat if it gets in the water system is probably via inhalation during showering, and considering that most people don't huff shower spray, transmission is probably pretty difficult.

When someone gets it though, it's pretty freaking lethal.

I am immune to brain eating amoebas! But I do have a big heart.
