bobby jindal in 2012?

Return to limited government, reduced spending, free markets? Who was the last Republican to do that? Oh wait, that's a trick question. There hasn't been one.

Ronald Reagan. And don't you think for one minute that the tech revolution of the 80s didn't spring from his policies or the ending of the cold war. From 1988 on, the moderates put us in the shitter.

Do you believe in big government, and if so, why?

I'm not a democrat, but Reagan's defense spending was astronomical.

Yes, he ended the cold war, a small price to pay for a very real threat.

Defense being one of the only true responsibilities of government. And yet we are told how government should be providing healthcare, distributing wealth, and bailing out failed corporations. Government is the problem, Reagan was right.

lack of government caused the current credit crises. would u like to defend that statement?

Sure. It's the oodles of bad mortgages that caused the the credit crunch. Mortgages to people who did not have the means to pay back. Why were their oodles? Look at the CRA, Fannie and Freddie for your answer. See.... it was a government created and enabled problem, one couldn't possibly expect them to exercise prudence in overseeing it.

Follow the money babe.

Yes, please have the GOP'ers go back to their social conservative roots! Yes! Shun more independents, moderates and Democrats! I think it's time Utah turned blue in 2012.

I resent this. The GOP's roots are not in social conservatism. That is a recent trend.

Bill Clinton = help people buy houses

George bush = deregulation of Fannie and Freddie

a small price? you mean like the World Trade Center? We broke the Soviet Union by supplying terrorists in Afghanistan. Out of this, al qaeda was born.

Ronald Reagan, small government and limited spending don't belong anywhere in the same galaxy as one another. Reagan increased the national debt from 712 billion in 1981 to over 2 trillion dollars in 1988. That's a 300% increase in our national debt.

Who controls the purse?

Apologies. You're right. The Republicans seem to think the GOP going back to its roots means going back to social conservative policies. Of course, all you have to do to get these guys to vote for you is say you believe in jesus, hate gays and want to ban abortion. None of them actually care about what you do in office.

Huh? What? Reagan ended the cold war???

That's a new one. Wow - I've never heard that before.

Ok, so, please tell me. How did Ronald Reagan's increase in spending in the Defense Department end the cold war?

[grabs popcorn]

The increase in spending coupled with the support of terrorist groups in Afghanistan fighting against Soviet troops broke the Soviet economy. This was started by Zgbiniew Bryzinksi (Sp) under Carter, who took credit for the longest time for breaking the Soviet Union. I wonder if he still brags about it, being that these terrorists ended up killing 3000 New Yorkers. This genius is going to be part of Obama's cabinet.

Outstanding summation. Overly simplisctic, but dead on.

What. You don't believe in Jesus. He was afterall, a Jew. :D

Yes but according to Evangelicals, the Jews killed Jesus. They want to preserve Israel so that when Jesus returns on his white horse, he can wipe them all out properly.

the 2012 election will be based on obama's performance. if he can keep his promises and keep the american people happy.. the gop will have a hard winning the election.
I want him to keep all his Carter II promises. The resultant destruction of the economy will make voters very unhappy, and we'll end up with Reagan II.

The resultant destruction of the economy

Which economy are we talking about? The one that has already been destroyed during the Bush presidency?

I must read different sources. According to what I have been reading, we are in the worst financial and economic crisis since the great depresssion.

Today, we are further bailing out AIG again to the tune of billions.

If Obama can get US on an even keel, he will have been successful.

Actually, our current economic woes are to do Democrat policies that created hedge funds and fannie mae. The only way out of the mess is to let the market do its work, cut government costs, and reduce taxes. Inflicting socialist policies and raising taxes will only cause a further downturn, perhaps even a depression.
