Blood Money: How the Gun Industry Bankrolls the NRA

http://www.vpc.org/studies/bloodmoney.pdf

The depth and breadth of gun industry financial support for the National Rifle Association makes clear that the self-proclaimed “America’s oldest civil rights organization” is, in fact, the gun industry’s most high-profile trade association. While the NRA works to portray itself as protecting the “freedoms” of its membership, it is, in fact protecting the gun industry’s freedom to manufacture virtually any gun or accessory it sees fit to produce. As NRA Board Member Pete Brownell, owner of Brownells, “the world’s largest supplier of firearms accessories and gunsmithing tools,” wrote on his website in his successful campaign to join the NRA's board:

Having [NRA] directors who intimately understand and work in leadership positions within the firearms industry ensures the NRA's focus is honed on the overall mission of the organization. These individuals bring a keen sense of the industry and of the bigger fight to the table.3

that quote is from Brownell's statement to the 4+ million members of the NRA, asking them for their vote to put him on the board, of which there are several dozen members...

btw... nearly all of the several dozen board members of the NRA have absolutely no direct association with gun manufacturers...

notable names on the NRA board that you might recognize:

Tom Selleck... yep... the inestimable Mr. Mustache from TV and films...

Roy Innis... National Chairman, Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), and a a key leader of the 1960's Civil Rights movement... betcha never woulda guessed somebody like him would be on the NRA board...

Ted Nugent... crazy-ass has-been rocker...

R. Lee Ermey, USMC (Ret)... yep... you know who I'm talkin' about... no-nonsense Gunny... :)

Karl ("The Mailman") Malone... NBA superstar... how 'bout that...? another high-profile knee-grow on the NRA board... who'da thunk it...?

Bob Barr... former GOP loose cannon and, more recently, libertarian puzzlement...

Well, not so much, unless you think we can afford to throw away about 36,000 jobs and 11 billion in economic activity and all the associated taxes involved with that activity.

Nutman, why do you hate Americans who lawfully exercise their Constitutional rights?

I didn't think any of the gun cultists would read the piece, but we can always hope.

"Blood Money" is a bit much. The NRA is primarily funded by "Tiny Little Dick Money."
