Ebonics: Ethnography


Ebonics (African-American English) is considered a formal dialect by many scholarly linguists. If we disseminate the idea that black culture is not inherently inferior or rebellious, then we might arrive at more progressive ways to deal with the regressive cycles in black inner-cities. These patterns reinforce a psychological sense of demoralization which gives rise to crime.

Education is a good area to deal with such issues. Since the media today is a new form of communication, social leaders can use media pulpits to talk about education as it relates to race, since such an approach will get to the problem of culturally-ingrained cynicism.
