Don't you even consider that a talk show host humiliated a Black female candidate with racial slurs? The situations, though, are not dictated by the individual belief. You live in a community, and you abide by its rules or suffer the consequence. You and or anyone else who used that word at the work place or in our school district would suffer the unhappy results of using it.

When we deal with young children, we teach them that there are good words and bad words and they are not allowed to use bad words

I was born and raised in South Brooklyn (the Waterfront) which at that time (30s, 40s, 50s) was inhabited almost totally by Italians. We are Dutch/German. All of my closest friends were Italian. I grew up with them and was accepted by them. They sometimes referred to each other offhandedly as "guineas." I suppose I could have gotten away with doing the same but I knew it would not be welcome usage, mainly because back then Italians were still regarded as second-class citizens while I was one of the fully privileged.
