The greedy bastards purposefully blew up a real estate bubble and bundled and sold worthless mortgages all over the world. Then when the shit hit the fan all of them threatened to crash and burn. Bush and Henry Paulson played their game and handed them over $800 billion of taxpayer's money and didn't even specify how they had to use it. The bankers never missed a trip to luxurious hotels and didn't miss a bonus. All they did was tighten up their criterion for loans. All of a sudden people had to prove they didn't need any money before they could get a loan.
