Occupy Movement - Get A Job! - YouTube
The Occupy Wall Street movement is almost five months old and although some vow not to abandon their posts throughout the country, HBO’s Bill Maher says the protest has ran its course.
On Friday night’s airing of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Maher likened the Occupy movement to the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan, which according to him has gone on too long.
“Let me ask about another occupation because this is, and you would be good on this, too, panel — the Occupy Wall Street,” Maher said. “Because similar to Afghanistan, when you occupy anything too long, people do get pissed off. And as I watch them on the news now, I find myself almost agreeing with Newt Gingrich, like you know what — get a job.”
According to the “Real Time” host, the leftover protesters were the ones that have strayed from the message of the whole Occupy movement.
“Only because the people who originally started, I think they went home, and now, I think it’s these anarchist stragglers,” he continued. “And this is the problem when your movement involves sleeping over in the park. You wind up attracting the people who were sleeping over in the park anyway. And I think that’s where we are now with the Occupy movement. They did a great job of bringing the issue of income inequality to the fore. But now it’s just a bunch of douchebags who think throwing a chair through the Starbucks window is going to bring on the revolution.”

I'm a fan of Maher and have been since he was fired from ABC's "Politically Incorrect." What he said is basically true but when anyone goes into an hour program and selects out three or four minutes they sure miss a lot.
For instance....working people in this country end up with 44% of company profits in wages and benefits....the lowest it has ever been. The only thing worse than that was after slavery when farm owners kept slaves and gave them a third of profits for farming the entire place. Also since 1979 the upper 1% has grown their income 232% while the lowest 20% has actually lost ground when wages are adjusted for inflation. Taxes on the wealthy are at their lowest amount in four decades and the Republicans would like to cut them more. Income taxes were adjusted to pay down the debt after WW2. During Eisenhower's Republican administration any earner who made more than $300,000 per year paid 91% of the excess to the government.
Something has to change....this bullshit ain't working.
