Biggest Drug War Victory? Courts, Governors Tiring of Asset Forfeiture – High Times

If cops weren’t allowed to seize your property without a trial—and, in many cases, without even accusing you of a crime—law enforcement in America would be near unrecognizable. For instance, the DEA would be $4 billion poorer.

As the Justice Department’s inspector general noted in March, DEA agents have seized $4 billion in cash over the last decade from travelers under the pretext of drug-related asset forfeiture. In more than 81 percent of the cases reviewed, there were no criminal charges filed, as Reason reported.

Funny how a few of us in another post were talking about assets forfeiture in another post. The one where one must register 10k. This is the perfect example of how you do not have to have 10k to have everything stripped from you. This is just the basics of it.

And, of course, the opportunity for the troops on the ground to skim a lot of these seizures, makes the War on Drugs very popular with enforcement operatives.

I suggest that anyone who wants to carry 10k get a letter from the Bank. A friend who goes to auctions does so but get a letter of possession from the bank, is called interfering with commercial business.

All implemented by OBAMA and BUSH, and not Trump.

Civil asset forfeiture is beyond bullshit. I am pleased as punch that more states are starting to limit its practice and require convictions now.
