Make sure you know what the Hell you are talking about.

    This is an assault rifle.

However, this is not an assault rifle.

If you aren't able to tell the difference, then you're right about one thing. These pictures won't show the difference. Because the difference is not distinguishable from the outer cosmetic qualities of each weapon. If you think the second one should be called an assault rifle, then you have to call this an assault rifle too.

Now, you see a difference between the two, right? WRONG! There is no difference in operation of either one, other than cosmetics. Here, meet the AR-15

That's it! That's an AR-15. For the most part, everything else that you see in the above pictures are cosmetic additions. An AR-15 is a SEMIautomatic firing weapon. That is distinctly different than automatic fire, and is NOT an assault weapon. While using different technology, the trigger pull of an AR-15 has the same overall affect as pulling the trigger of this.

So, if you're going to babble on about banning "assault" weapons, then know what you're talking about. Because the vast majority of people who want assault weapons bans don't even know the first thing about guns in the first place. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't talk in the first place.

An AR15 is a shorter, semi-auto version of the full-auto M16. Basically an M16 for civilians...but with a different name.

And for a bonus 10 points....who can tell us what the "AR" in AR-15 stands for????

"Assault weapon" is a legal term. An assault weapon is whatever the law says it is. And the law says an assault weapon is whatever flavor Hollywood and the media have made infamous.

So when it comes to gun control, the law is incredibly capricious, which is not what you want your laws to be.

It stands for Assault Rifle of course, However in it's civilian single fire version it does not meet the legal Definition of an Assault Rifle because the law requires it not be full auto Capable.

A knife can be an "assault weapon". Anything you use as a weapon..to assault someone...is an assault weapon. They dont make a massage weapon. Or swim weapon. Or a drive weapon. Weapons are only for two things: Assault and Defense.

Armalite is the name of a company. Which, btw, makes an AR-10, a badass weapon.

Must mean, "Army," right? Maybe it means "assault rifle." Or.....well.....maybe....nah....there's no way it stands for the original manufacturer Armalite!

"Attack dog" used to mean a dog that was trained to behave a specific way. But it can be changed by law to mean a specific breed which Hollywood and the media has convinced the public is a dangerous breed.

Just so with "assault weapon". It has gone from a well-defined behavior of a weapon to whatever the nervous nellies decide it is.

AR-15 basic model, not an assault weapon. AR-15 with a flash suppressor, OMG WE GOTTA BAN THAT!
