I have no idea why there was no defensive replacement for the very-poor fielding but good-hitting Buckner. It was the 9th inning ffs. RIP

McNamara wanted him on the field, assuming the Sox were gonna wrap it up that day.

His legs were bad, but he coulda made in from the dugout to the mound to join the pile-up.

Which shouldn’t have mattered, had the pitcher not forgotten to cover first. Nobody talks about that. Had Buckner fielded the ball cleanly and Mookie beats him to first then the pitcher is the goat.
