Australian Federal Police (AFP) have been involved in a minor car accident in Israel hours after arriving in the country.

Three (AFP) officers are in Israel to investigate the misuse of Australian passports by suspects linked to the assassination of a Hamas leader in Dubai.

They spent the day at the embassy in Tel Aviv where they were expected to interview the three Australians whose passports were forged.

But as they left the embassy building, their car, with Australian embassy number plates, struck a cyclist and failed to stop.

The woman was unhurt but says she wants an apology from the embassy and a new bike wheel.

She says she has already contacted a lawyer.

The embassy says it is investigating but has had no formal complaint from the woman and cannot confirm the accident took place.

The AFP have been unavailable for comment.
