McLEAN, Va. - The federal government's most secure prison has determined that two books written by President Barack Obama contain material "potentially detrimental to national security" and rejected an inmate's request to read them.

Ahmed Omar Abu Ali is serving a 30-year sentence at the federal supermax prison in Florence, Colo., for joining Al Qaeda and plotting to assassinate then-President George W. Bush. Last year, Abu Ali requested two books written by Obama: "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope."

But prison officials, citing guidance from the FBI, determined that passages in both books contain information that could damage national security.

oops!

How the hell do PRISON OFFICIALS determine what is "potentially detrimental to national security"?

Load of prison-official, control-freaking blather, that.

citing guidance from the FBI
Than would it be "potentially detrimental to national security" to sell to lets say ANYONE

My guess is there were many books not allowed. It's like a school library-not public libraries. It's ok to censure some materials. Islam conversions are problematic in prisons so probably any reference to it is prohibited. Rights in prison is not the same as the rest of society, obviously.

By using common sense ...........that's how!

Good for them! .............. & yes, it's funny!

It would be a more interesting story (sorry, FAUX) if we knew which parts of the books the FBI found objectionable. Also, whether or not other prisoners were able to read the books with no problem.

donchya just love it when the kneejerk moonbats blame article on "Faux" news when clearly the article comes from "AP"

Considering Obama's performance in office so far, just such a case could be made, and since the prison officials are following FBI guidelines, it's fair to say Obama's own Justice Department considers his words, "potentially detrimental to national security" as so many other Americans also do.

Just a question I ponder now and then... Why do inmates get to watch tv and read books? It isn't a place to relax and take a time out. Let's get them back to making little rocks out of big rocks. At the end of the day they will be too tired to want to read and perfer to just go to sleep. That's the way inmates should be facing their sentences. They're the dregs of society and the only right they have is to breathe air.

Just how full of yourself do you have to be to write and autobiography while still in your mid twenties?

And why would anyone with sense want to read such self serving pap.

Prison officials cite specific pages - but not specific passages - in the books that they deem objectionable. They include one page in Obama's 1995 book, "Dreams from My Father," and 22 separate pages in his policy-oriented 2006 book, "The Audacity of Hope." It was not immediately obvious what passages might have been deemed problematic, though nearly half of the pages cited are in a chapter devoted to foreign affairs.

Of course, Fox News makes it seem like the whole book is objected.

Obama is currently 47 years old.

Dreams from my Father was written in 1995, 14 years ago. He would be 33. So for Math, you get a grade of:

He wrote two you know and 33 is still rediculously young to be writing an auto biography especially when by that time you haven't really done anything much beyond ally yourself with every crook and unrepentant terrorist in Chi town.

He wrote the 2nd one in 2006, THREE years ago not even. Is he still not qualified to write an auto biography? Whether you like it or not, he has gone through alot in his life, and has some pretty interesting experiences. He also has one of the most candid autobiographies of ANY politician in the last FIFTY years+. How many others admit they pretty much did try almost of all the major drugs except heroin because they didn't like the dealer who was selling it?

For you to go and say "ally yourself with every crook and unrepentant terrorist in Chi town" shows that you're only ignorant of the facts or very bitter about his having two successful books for some odd reason.
