Suicide car bombers detonated bombs and fired missiles into the US compound.
Reuters reported:

Suicide attackers detonated bombs and fired rockets outside a major U.S. base in Afghanistan on Sunday, killing five people in a brazen operation that highlighted the country’s security challenges ahead of the 2014 NATO combat troop pullout.

Local police officials said bodies in Afghan police and military uniforms were scattered around the entrance of the airfield in the eastern city of Jalalabad after a two-hour battle. A Taliban spokesman said the militant group had launched the 6 a.m. assault.

The Taliban, who have been fighting U.S.-led NATO and Afghan forces for more than a decade, sometimes dress in uniforms for attacks.

Who said that they were his "peace partners"? Is the Taliban one cohesive organization or is broken up into different factions? Are you happy about this attack?

Where was the number nine? You want to make it sound worse than it seems.....

And there's kind of this thingy called a war...there...is it really surprising?

Time to go home. This gets us no where.

No I'm not happy about the attack, especially while the "Taliban" are in negotiations with the Oblamer regime. Are you referring to the "Haggani"? They're Pakistani Taliban that Oblamer has refused to accept their presence in the Stan.

No, I am referring to this fact: "The Taliban are internally divided and unwilling to meet Washington’s demands to sever all ties to Al Qaeda, renounce violence and accept the commitments to political and human rights in Afghanistan’s Constitution."

"Still, the United States has not and should not give up completely on a negotiated solution or at least some movement toward reconciliation. And it can’t wait until 2014 or later. Although there are no formal talks under way, there are contacts between the Taliban and Afghans and others. "

I don't know what your angle is, but Obama didn't get us into this war. Our best bet is to withdraw, keep the drones flying, and TCB when the need arises.

"Military and diplomatic officials here and in Washington said that despite attempts to engage directly with Taliban leaders this year, they now expect that any significant progress will come only after 2014, once the bulk of NATO troops have left. "

Again like I stated before:
"Divisions between the Taliban’s political wing and its military commanders represent another obstacle to serious talks. When the discussions first became public, “the military wing of the Taliban was very critical,” said Syed Muhammad Akbar Agha, a former Taliban military commander who lives in Kabul. "

Suicide bomb attack in Jalalabad, in eastern Afghanistan...

Jalalabad comes under brutal suicide bomb attack
Sunday 17th January, 2016 - A suicide bomb attack has send shivers in Jalalabad leading to the death of 13 people and leaving 14 injured.
Officials from Afghanistan have revealed that a suicide attack was carried out on the residence of a public representative in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday. Ataullah Khyogani, spokesman for the Nangarhar provincial government said that the bomb attack took place on the provincial council member Obaidullah Shinwari's residence. He explained that the attacker detonated the explosives hidden in his clothes and since the compound of the house was crowded with people who had come together for a family gathering, many lost their lives.

Local media from the region have pointed out that it was a gathering of tribal elders who had gone to the residence to welcome Shinwari's brother Saminullah, who had been held by the Taliban for nine months. Reports say Shinwari's father, Malek Osman, was wounded in the explosion but Shinwari has escaped unharmed. Enamullah Miakheil, spokesman for the Nangarhar Public Health Hospital, said that 13 bodies and 14 wounded people had been brought to the hospital so far.

President Ashraf Ghani condemned the attack and said in a statement that as "terrorists lose their ability to fight Afghan forces on the battlefield, now they are carrying out terror attacks on residential areas." The compound is said to be close to the Pakistani consulate that was targeted last week in an attack claimed by the Islamic State group. However, so far no group has claimed responsibility for the bombing The Shinwari tribe is known for their strong opposition to the presence of the Islamic State group in the eastern province.
