Ask this guy about govt-run healthcare

Just out of curiosity, which department of the govt would you trust to make decisions about you and your family's healthcare? Dept of Health & Human Services? The IRS? Homeland Security? FEMA? Dept of Labor? Dept of Education? Social Security Admin? Dept of Motor Vehicles?

What's your govt 'role model' agency that gives you confidence the Feds are capable of reducing the cost of healthcare in this country?

I trust government less than I trust a criminal, a terrorist can blow up a building, government will take advantage of the public's fear and can impose dust to dawn curfews in the name of safety. I've yet to see a government agency run efficiently,as Milton Friedman said " Put the Federal Government in control of the Sahara Desert and in five years, there would be a shortage of sand".

Good quote... here's another, "If a govt worker fell from a 10-story window, it'd take him a week to hit the ground."

He had no health insurance and was asked to pay $20 a month toward his $250,000 hospital bill and they wouldn't turn it over to collection. A co-worker who's a member of the Methodist church told me every Sunday when they are receiving communion, they are asked to leave an donation on the back of the pew as support for the charitable services at Methodist Hospital of Dallas.

Yeah, our healthcare system has problems and needs FIXING. But what it doesn't need is to be thrown out and a new plan brought in which puts the burden of care for uninsured squarely on the taxpayers backs.

Nobody dies from lack of health insurance in this country.
Plenty of people die from lack of health insurance due to getting easily preventable diseases due to having to pay some asswipe doctor $200 for a checkup and him immediately referring you to a specialist so he doesn't risk a lawsuit for misdiagnosis.
Then the "specialist" Charges you $600 for his 1/2 hour visit and tells you you're fine but you're over 40 so you need Xrays, a colonoscopy, a stress test and echocardiagram etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.

Big damn money if you're a blue collar person with a family.

SO... You never go to the doctor until there is a crisis.

Nobody said it was easy... but there's all kinds of help out there if people have enough gumption to look for it. Of course, that lets all those out who'd rather sit back and whine and wait for the govt to provide help for them.

You are full of shit.
Tell me how a guy struggling at a welding shop or working as a backhoe operator that has no way in hell of paying for an MRI after falling, or getting a preventative colonoscopy is lacking "gumption".I've heard some real stupid shit. But that's a doozie !

Maybe he needs to just pray to the baby Jesus more and be more patriotic.:cuckoo:

You fucking clowns have no problem sending BILLIONS to IsNtreal,Palestine the entire African continent, and bailing out everyone that's a multi millionaire but are too damn dumb to demand your govt do something for YOU........other than " defending your freeDumb"

Idiot Nation. Always voting against their own best interests.

I don't see that much difference between between the government agencies and the insurance companies making the decisions. If there is healthcare reform, at least more people would be covered. If decisions need made, then I think there should be an independent panel of experts making the decisions. Have terms that expire and have the president appoint new experts every few years. Make the terms long enough that they would be independent of political whims.

I am not anti-markets though and I believe a market approach could work. As long as there is substantial reform and as long as anyone who wants insurance has an affordable means to get it, I don't care what the approach is. We even have a model for a market approach in place, Bush's Medicare Part D is a market approach to medicare drugs. Its not perfect, but what ever is and it is better than before.

I simply don't think the status quo is good enough for America

Had a patient some years back who was a quad. Her physician daughter didn't want her to have her gallbladder removed by our hokey, backwoods surgeons, so she arranged for Mom to have her surgery at Johns Hopkins (where daughter worked).

The anesthesiologist fucked up, and the upshot was the woman's spinal cord infarcted. She spent some time there in ICU, developed ARDS, acute renal failure, etc. Finally was stabilized (as stable as she could be, that is).

So she was transferred back to BFE (i.e. our hospital) where we took care of her and her family for months. She improved to the point she could move her arms slightly and could sit in a wheelchair with support.

So they moved her to the rehab floor, where he husband came to visit shortly after her arrival there. He entered her room, barricaded the door, then proceeded to shoot and kill her and then himself.

Moral of the story: cut down on your fat intake. Cholecystectomies are hazardous to your health.
