Art of the Deal? Obama’s With Iran Was Much Better Than Trump’s With North Korea

You do realize that it took Reagan and Gorbachev almost three years to negotiate a nuclear treaty. It took almost two months of solid negotiations for the Iran deal. In what crazy thought process would anyone expect a complete treaty in one day or even a couple hours?

Have a crazy thought process or be a liberal...although it's pretty much the same.

So true and all that was after 10 years of Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT) between the U.S. and Soviets.

We even had an OP today saying - paraphrase - "Gee, Trump must got something we don't know about".. "It can't be as bad as it looks.
Maybe true, but not for the USA, for Trumpov.
Such as him saving ZTE in exchange for Chinese buddies financing his $500 Mil Indonesia Project.
And the Chinese were the absent Elephant in the Room.
So Trumpov got the HUGE attention he wanted, and eventually perhaps the 'Trump Pyongyang Hotel and Golf Club.'
Otherwise it's still 2-0 Kim.

The Art of the Deal? Obama’s With Iran Was Much Better Than Trump’s With North Korea
The Singapore statement pales even in comparison with the interim, preliminary Iran deal signed by the U.S. and other world powers in 2013.

The Art of the Deal? Obama’s With Iran Was Much Better Than Trump’s With North Korea

ISTANBUL — One was the result of 12 years of painstaking negotiations over two U.S. presidential administrations and three changes of government on the other side, with the U.N. Security Council, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and leaders from the capitals of half a dozen countries actively involved.
The other was hammered out by two beefy guys with bad hair during the equivalent of a long layover in Singapore.

But the Singapore statement, which has been praised by Trump supporters and conservative pundits on cable television, also pales dramatically in comparison to the interim deal that Iran, the U.S. and other world powers signed in 2013.

That four-page document, called the Joint Plan of Action and signed in Geneva on November 24, 2013, ultimately paved the way for the JCPOA, which arms control experts generally regarded as an imperfect but effective way of preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, but Trump repeatedly has called the “worst deal” ever.

Republicans hostile to Barack Obama blasted the Iran deal as appeasing a brutal regime. In contrast, pundits on Fox News lauded Trump for his diplomatic prowess in meeting with North Korea’s leader."..."

Iran Deal Comparisons Cloud Trump's North Korea Summit
Trump's proclamations of historic success at his unprecedented summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have drawn unflattering comparisons to his rejection of the Iran nuclear deal.

(AP) President Donald Trump's triumphant assertions about the success of the unprecedented Singapore summit are being met with skepticism and outright derision from critics seizing on the contradiction between his withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and his willingness to accept vague pledges from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
[......]
"While I am glad the president and Kim Jong Un were able to meet, it is difficult to determine what of concrete nature has occurred," said Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He said he wanted Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who will lead the follow-on negotiations, to explain details of what the administration has in mind.

The top Democrat on that panel, Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, who also opposed the Iran deal, took issue with Trump's zeal as well as his announcement of the suspension of U.S.-South Korea military exercises.
"In exchange for Selfies in Singapore, we have Undermined our maximum pressure policy and sanctions,"
Menendez said.

For Iran deal proponents, though, the Singapore summit was evidence of Trump's Lack of preparedness and poor negotiating skills. Iran deal opponents, meanwhile, seemed willing to wait and see."...

The art of the opinion. It was the first meeting. As far as I can tell the nuke deal with Iran took several years of negotiation.

Cheer leaders cheer while the rest of the world mocks and laughs at the clown president, liar in chief trump.

Anything to diminish the historic achievement.... anything.

Trump is the biggest peace president ever. What other person has ended almost a century long war? Give him the prize already...

Funny that so many ranted and raved when a summit was first proposed. Then they hollered and screamed when Trump cancelled. Then they pulled out their hair and stomped their feet when the summit was back on. Now they scream that there was not a complete deal reached with hundreds of points.
It seems that they would rather have nuclear war then thank Trump for keeping one from happening.

If Obama had held a summit, the other side would have accused him of selling out.

Trump came back with no guarantees about anything.

There is no triumph to help the GOP in the fall in this confab.

If Obama had held a summit, the other side would have accused him of selling out.

Yes, if roles were reversed Republicans would be in an uproar and Democrats would be defending the actions of the president. People are disappointing; get used to it.

The point is, Confounding, is that the two sides are unable to compromise.

Since the debacle of the election of 2000, both parties struggle for complete control.

How strong is the Constitution! The GOP has the government, the Congress, the WH, and SCOTUS, yet he cannot completely force its will on the other side. In fact, other than the appointment of Gorsuch and the tax bill, the GOP has had little success overall.

The Left thought nullification would fast-track Iranian proliferation, incite more Iranian terrorism and adventurism, estrange our allies, and alienate a possible new friend.

Many on the conservative side (aside from Never Trumpers who are against anything Trump is for, including their own prior policies) thought it would have been wiser to back out slowly, or at least to have waited first for the duplicitous Iranians to get caught in clear violations, or to coordinate a joint withdrawal with the Europeans.

Few of these critics ever quite understood that the deal was already a stinking corpse, long overdue for burial.

You do realize there was NO DEAL....dumbass.
The Trump haters seem to be having a really hard time grasping that.

You people are a trip. You've been beaten, deal with it.

The ART OF THE DEAL put Hillary in retirement and on a perpetual crying tour. And if you think the Iran deal was good you are one dumb sonofabitch

I am not sure exactly what you wanted in under a days time? North Korea needs to put together a list of all nuclear sites, centrifuges, uranium stockpiles, missle sites, you name it. Then we need to be able to verify that nothing is left out or not where it should be. Next comes how it will be destroyed or rendered inoperable. Then how to verify that everything remains in compliance. I have no doubt that some people we want to verify will not be acceptable to them and some they want will not be acceptable to us.
The simple fact that Kim has declared that he will denuclearize is something that none of the Kim's have even talked about before.
So many complain that we have talked about no South Korea -U.S. Training exercises. If we see that Kim is not serious or is delaying all we have to do is more or less make a phone call and the exercises can be back on.

Trump and Kim probably spent most of their time talking about their favorite past time, porn and porn stars. Kim is rumored to be a sex addict obsessed with porn and we all know where trump is on that subject.

Everything you need to know about the Iran nuclear deal

What Iran agreed to:

Cutting by two-thirds, to 5,060, its centrifuges at its key processing centre in Natanz. Iran will reduce its current stockpile of low-enriched uranium, which can be processed into bomb-grade fuel, by 96 per cent to 300kg. It will also allow the International Atomic Energy Agency access to all its sites and will not build any new enrichment facilities for 15 years. This extends Iran’s breakout time – the period estimated it would take Iran to produce sufficient fissile material for one weapon – to one year.

---------------

Not one year, but one year after 15 years. No agreement is forever. And who knows if Iran will even exist in 16 years. So this agreement means Iran will have no nuclear weapons for at least 16 years.

North Korea on the other hand........

Your cited article missed the most glaring problem with the agreement, R-Derp! Iran DID agree to allow IAEA inspectors access to all of it's sites but only with a 24 day notice. So if the IAEA does get wind of the Iranians conducting nuke projects it has to give the Iranians three and a half weeks notice before they're allowed on site to do an inspection! It's the most naive...misguided...bone headed...agreement EVER!

Barack Obama and John Kerry gave the Iranians EVERYTHING they wanted up front and got almost NOTHING in return!

But Trump got to wave his piece of paper. He had his Neville Chamberlain moment. Or the updated version, Bush's 'Mission Accomplished' bullshit.
