The VP slot is mainly window dressing. Its not like the best and the brightest get that spot. Quayle and Biden come to mind. There is really no power in it. Unless somebody shoots the boss even the press pretty much ignores you.

You know, you are right and that bothers me. The VP is usually chosen for what state is needed for the electoral count. But, God forbid, something happens to the president? We need a strong leader for VP, not just insurance for votes.

Well Texas is out after the Trump/Cruz issue MAYBE. Reagan and Bush had their issues as well. But Rubio could deliver Florida.

Not from what I can tell. Caucus voters are a different breed. he's establishment and very electable. Not as good imo as Cruz or Trump but hey; could do a whole lot worse.
