In my career I’ve been in situations that had combat vets with several tours of duty under their belts all stressed out.

This is in the UK. Lecturers told to speak in a "helpful, warm tone". That's funny. I tell my ELEMENTARY students (sorrynotsorry for the all caps there), I'm talking 5th graders, not to feed me garbage when they're feeding me garbage. And believe me, they know when they're feeding me garbage, and I call them on it.

Without exception, they look at me like, oh crap, she's onto us. Now we have to produce actual learning.

And they do.

"helpful, warm tone". That's great when needed. Sometimes tough love is needed too.
