Who dictates socialism - the people or the government??

So in reality SOCK who dictates the allocation or resources and production??

But I thought socialism was the dictation and allocation of resources and the control of production by the people - NOT the government SOCK...

So in reality SOCK, true socialism is not socialism if it has a government dictating... That would make it COMMUNISM....

You have it entirely backwards. Communism, in the basic textbook definition of the word, means a classless and stateless society. That's why there's never been a country called "The Communist Republic of _____" or the "The _____ People's Communist Republic." It's a contradiction in terms. All those countries are called "Socialist" countries because "Socialism" is sometimes supposed to be thought of as a middle stage between Capitalism and Communism (ie, a classless and stateless society) in which there is a state that represents "the people's' will" temporarily and works towards the establishment of the classless and stateless society. Obviously, that was the Marxist theory of it. Most of the 'historical' examples are examples of what became known as "State Socialism" because it soon became clear that the state was there to stay, and thereafter became what some call "State Capitalism" because almost every "socialist" aspect was done away with and the state began emulating so-called Capitalist and bourgeois behavior (ie, establishing military ranks, maintaining a standing army, repressing the workers, etc).

Today, Socialism means many different things to different people, ranging from mild reformists (ie, social-democrats) to radical revolutionaries (ie, communist guerillas). There's some unifying themes (equality, justice, whatever), but other than that tactics, implementation, and policy prescriptions vary widely.

Well, I'm sure they believe they're "socialists" but socialism doesn't exist - communism only does.

I think there are plenty of democrats, especially the "blue dogs" that differ with their communist buddies and there are a few democrats that believe they're democrats but really fall farther to the right (or the left ) being libertarian than they may believe..

I suppose there are theocratic authoritarian nuts of all kinds but the progressive communists outnumber them by 100:1.
