Thanks to a late-season cyclone churning and compacting the ice north of the Bering Strait, Arctic sea ice extent suddenly dipped to the second-lowest level ever for this date.
The minimum happens around mid-September. It may not stay second-lowest, but it can't rise any further than fourth-lowest. And none of that will matter to deniers, who will declare that anything short of a new record low extent is a "recovery".
