Anti Porn plank added to GOP platform

Here are the questions that really matter:

Are those involved in the physical act adults?
Is what they are doing consensual?

This then opens you to the following questions:

What's wrong with children being involved?
What's wrong with coerced sex?

Because if sex is such a neutral phenomenon, then why any boundaries?

Get pornography out of your life. It's a corrupt and deceptive influence. You dont need a law to do it. Make the choice now to flee it.

What makes you think that pornography is a part of my life to start with? As far as I'm concerned, sex is a contact sport, not a spectator sport. But who am I, and who are you, to tell others what to do? I'll agree with you, we don't need laws on it. So why are the GOP wanting to pass laws on it?

You'd have to ask them. And you are defending pornography in the people's lives. The exploitation and deception they bring into our homes corrupts and destroys them.

And you are a human being, you think you can stand alone and not do your part to help others?

This is a very true comment Avatar, but it should be a personal family choice Not The Governments.
Do what I say, not what I do Romney clan Motto

This is REALLY a problem...for the right...LOL

Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers

Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography.

A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states.

Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.

"Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by"

Porn in the USA: Conservatives Are Biggest Consumers - ABC News

Ah, the Sage of Bulls**t has spoken again.

This is supposed to correlate to the conclusion of the thread title ?

No wonder liberals suck at math and reasoning.

In a press release Monday from Morality in Media, a faith-based non-profit, President Patrick Trueman, a former anti-porn prosecutor, calls the current distribution of pornography "a violation of current federal law" and lauds Republicans for approving stricter new wording:

The new language replaces previous platform wording, which only opposed child pornography. It will now read, "Current laws on all forms of pornography and obscenity need to be vigorously enforced." Trueman noted that current federal obscenity laws not only prohibit distribution of hardcore pornography on the Internet but also on hotel/motel TV, on cable/satellite TV, and in retail shops.

GOP...the party of liberty and freedom....................................to CONFORM

I agree something needs to be done, I have 2 teenage boys, and sex is all over the internet, T.V and some of the girls show it big time in the High schools. All I can do is keep communication open for them to make good choices.
It shouldn't be thrown in our faces, but it also shouldn't be the hypocrite republicans doing it. They are bad examples, freakin horn dogs

That's an incredibly stupid thing to say.

It's not society's job to conform to whatever you want.

When wealth is transferred to a small group of people - or should I say when wealth accumulates in fewer and fewer hands - a problem arises.

Namely...

You have a growing population of "have nots." These "have nots" are potentially dangerous because they do not have the means to support themselves.

This introduces the need for social control.

The added need for social control requires a more powerful government, one that has more points of intervention in the individual's life - more surveillance, more laws, more TOOLS to manage the growing list of people with nothing to lose.

In response to this need, the government uses the threat of terrorism, drugs, and pornography to make government stronger and more invasive.

Granted: terrorism, drugs, and pornography are all BAD things which absolutely endanger the body politic (in different ways). But you have to weigh the threat of these terrible things against the threat of having a more powerful government.

Typically, Republican voters believe the threat of these things is worse than the threat of giving government more power. In my experience, Republicans are only against government power when their news sources feed them issues .

Here is what most people don't understand: Republicans tend to give more power to government than the left. This is partly because they are more fearful than the Left by nature. Their world is populated with demons - with gay terrorist baby killing illegal alien Islamo-fascist socialist communists. They empower bureaucrats to keep them safe.

Notice how Obama downplayed the war on terrorism. This was in stark contrast to the hysterical Bush response, which was to initiate warrantless surveillance of American citizens and broadcast color coded warnings on television. [Yes, Obama has kept many Bush policies, but he did not initiate them. He's too weak to stop anything]

We didn't hear a peep from the Republican voter party as the GOP made government much stronger and more invasive.

Point is: pornography, terrorism and drugs are real threats that are used strategically to manipulate the stupid, who turn to dear leader for protection.

The Right has always been the party of big government. Don't they get it? Government can't solve problems; they can only make them worse.

I wonder how this 'pornography' ban would work, are they going to shut down modern art museums; and shut down anywhere that has a little nudity. Isn't shutting down playboy a violation of the first amendment?

Pornography is protected speech, obscenity not.

The trick is determining which is which; obscenity is often subject to ‘local standards.’

The problem is most conservatives want to bundle it all into one and ban it.
