Maybe not such a defeat. The socialists may well be a partner in a grand coalition. Such is the wonder of proportional representation. One get's a government that NOBODY voted for.

"First past the post" voting system is the best.

eg; 5 candidates stand for election in one seat...the candidate who gets the most votes wins.

All fair, all nice and simple.

And no compulsory voting!
Only people who want to vote, want to be bothered attending the voting stations and having a say, should be doing so.

Forcing people to vote is oh so ...'no democracy, no freedom'.
