And now, a truly relevant opinion on monuments to the Confederacy

Here's an idea...

Let's petition the US government to introduce a UN resolution asking Germany, Austria and Poland to consider wiping the standing concentration camps away. I mean they are relics of a regime that killed 6 million people. You know, the Nazis. They kept slaves and gassed them for being an inferior race.

You're in the wrong thread.

No, I'm not. You don't get to tell me what thread I can comment in. If you can't answer my argument perhaps you should just say so. There's no shame in it.

Your post has something to do with Robert E. Lee not wanting Confederate monuments?

Please point out that part of your post that applies. I'll stand corrected.

95% of southerners did not own slaves when the Civil War was fought. The rich elites and the pols who were funded by them were fighting to keep slavery legal because it would have broken their piggy banks. The majority of Confederates were fighting because the Union army was marching into their fields, stealing their livestock, blowing up their railroad tracks and stopping shipping commerce, including every day necessities. Then it became personal and the two sides began hating each other.
I don't think it is necessary to take down the statues of confederate soldiers unless a community votes to do so. This is their ancestors. We forgave the south when the war ended. We did not brand them all haters and enemies forever more. Ugly racism still exists, but it sure as hell doesn't exist only in the south. I think this is going too far.
I guess you are giving the revisionist theory about the civil war. Bet you never bothered to read the truth of the Democrats like it says in the book, I listed. Of course if you do read it, you will realize that your whole life has been 1 big Liberal Lie.

Southern Democrat secessiionists were conservative. Only you are trying to rewrite that history.
You of course fall into the revisionist theory also, as anyone who wants to subjugate people are new age liberals, not classical liberals(conservatives). Yep stay ignorant, as liberal elites love how stupid you are...slave.

He's fully on board with the lying and racist violence, and knows he is. He doesn't get to play the 'Stupid' card.

When you lie about what I believe, you have lost the argument. I can probably whip up a participation trophy for you though,

if it will make you feel better.

You Maoists are hilarious when you try to fake having morals and principles of any kind. Citing CNN for anything is even more hilarious.

Make the case that Robert E. Lee never said anything of the sort that is cited.

I'd enjoy reading that effort. lol

Hmm, if you could answer my initial post, then I would feel compelled to answer yours. But here you are preaching how bad the confederacy was yet citing the words of a confederate general to butress your argument.

Aren't we being a tad bit... hypocritical?

When the question is of monuments to those who fought against the "Perpetual Union", the issue remains clear. As usual, however, the debate had deteriorated into everyone's particular hate being justified. The silliness of it all is exasperating. Where is the intelligence in America today?

It's all just more evidence that the inescapable truth is that the history of America, at its core, is the history of race relations.

I'm not interested in who started it--the Democrats or the Republicans. Could care less which party was involved. Times change. I know what Democrats today stand for, and sometimes I vote for them. Sometimes I don't. I'm an Independent.

Ironically it's these same people who insist that every Democrat for all time is responsible for every act of every other Democrat for all time,

they're the ones who quickly and easily discard Republicans they don't like as not being real Republicans.

Con-federacy
Con-servative

Coincidence?
Only an idiot like you think the Confederacy was conservatives.

Conservatives(classical Liberalism)
"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" is a well-known phrase in the United States Declaration of Independence. The phrase gives three examples of the "unalienable rights" which the Declaration says have been given to all human beings by their Creator, and which governments are created to protect.

Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness - Wikipedia

New Age Liberals/Progressives

The Road to Serfdom - Wikipedia
he "[warns] of the danger of tyranny that inevitably results from government control of economic decision-making through central planning." He further argues that the abandonment of individualism and classical liberalism inevitably leads to a loss of freedom, the creation of an oppressive society, the tyranny of a dictator, and the serfdom of the individual. He argued that fascism, National Socialism and socialism had common roots in central economic planning and empowering the state over the individual.

These 2 ideologues have been created because the Democrats of old would never been in power, except by morphing themselves to be "supposedly" for the people. As we see today, it isn't about the people, who are dying in the liberal cities by the 100s, but the power those liberal elites want. just like the slave owners, it is about controlling the people.

Those Camps have been setup as museums so people can learn about what the bad guys did. Why not as I have said before, round up the confederate status put them in a museum and teach the kids how bad the Democrats were, are and always will be? Anyone who flies a rebel battle standard, are morons who support the Southern White Democrats or just plain ignorant of history.

Ah a fence rider, who has no spine. Just sways which ever way the wind blows. An independent is a liberal too ashamed to admit they are liberal..

Second of all, it's not ad hominem when it's true.

As shocking and appalling as I find that suggestion to be, Jim, that wasn't the purpose of of those statues. Perish the thought.
I know, the original thought of the status were to honor those of the south that fought against the union. Should we honor Hitler, Stalin and Hirohito who fought against US in WWII? Or should they be in museums where kids can be taught how bad they were? I was born in the south, and moved to the north, was taught the civil war was all about states rights, but after reading the book, Setting the record straight, American history in black and white, I now realize how wrong I was. Many of my friends of color, and I have more of them than I do white, have read the book also, and will never again, vote Democrat.

I personally do not care whether the Statues stand or are moved from gvt property or are revised to include the full history...

And imo, the only reason people want them removed is due to the skin heads, and white nationalist, and neo nazis... who have grabbed on to them as 'theirs' and have used them as symbols of white supremacy...same with the Confederate battle flag.... these groups do not give a single hoot about preserving history...no one is buying that for a nano second!

Just view the video of their torches and chants from Friday night's march and protest.... nothing was about the Statue...the chants and torches was about hatred, hatred for jews and blacks and anyone different from themselves...not the Robert e Lee statue...

This is missing the point. What the white nationalists are protesting is NOT the removal of our history or racial relations, but rather the removal of statues that were erected to commemorate a secession based on race. REL could not have had any clue that his image would have been used for this

There were a few significant issues/causes of the civil war, slavery is certainly one of them. Lincoln, by issuing the Emancipation proclamation, felt he had gained moral standing to fight the war based on Slavery. In my eyes, the war was unjustly fought by the US. As Americans, we are defenders of liberty. How is forcing the southern states to be governed by a system they reject Liberty?

IMO- the clean and moral way for slavery to have ended would have been a war between the United States and a liberated Confederacy, a confederacy which could have survived after a war to end slavery on the continent. The war was started by the South, and initially fought by the Union in an effort to preserve the Union. History is rarely clean.

history is just like everything else ... some people would rather fight about it than teach it..
