Two word answer: Citizens United

This is an area where I probably differ considerably from my rightie brothers and sisters.

In my view, Citizens United was the single most idiotic SCOTUS decision in my lifetime.

Even a blindfolded ten year old knows the difference between speech and money, and apparently our Supreme Morons don't.

I have a theory. RINO's like the decision, and populists don't. Let's find out.

It is easy.

Power corrupts, so the more power is centralized, the more corrupt that government becomes.

The issue has been allowing Progressives to turn the US government into a collectivist entity like the Communist and Nazi regimes. They did this by subverting the General welfare clause to justify everything they want to do.

James Madison, the author of the Constitution said it best.

James Madison Quote

“If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare, and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare, they may take the care of religion into their own hands; they may appoint teachers in every State, county and parish and pay them out of their public treasury; they may take into their own hands the education of children, establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision of the poor; they may undertake the regulation of all roads other than post-roads; in short, every thing, from the highest object of state legislation down to the most minute object of police, would be thrown under the power of Congress... Were the power of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for, it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature of the limited Government established by the people of America.”

Their only hope is the Article V movement.

For the first time in US history, we need to have states amend the Constitution to do things that need done that the Federal Congress refuses to do, such as term limits for Congress and some sort of balanced budget mandated for Congress. Otherwise, Congress will never put term limits on themselves nor would they put a limit on how much they want to spend. Both issues are supported by about 80% of Americans but will never see the light of day at the ballot box because they control voters.

Things like this need to be done in order to return power to the states and away from the Federal government like it was originally designed.

Otherwise, it is just pure fantasy to change the system.

About half the states have joined this movement. They need 2/3 I think.
