What about medical conditions? Insulin resistance, fatigue, menopause, lack of sleep, stress. And a lot of medications can cause weight gain too. Meds for depression, blood pressure, depression, mood disorders, migraines, diabetes. Most of the meds given for these problems can cause folks to gain weight. It's not always about self-control, or commericals.
Guess it depends what your medicating with, drugs or twinkees?
What I'm saying is; there are millions of people in the United States on one, or more of these medications. You don't have to be stuffing yourself with twinkees, pasta, or bread to gain weight. In many cases people can exercise til the cows come home and still not lose any weight.
A lot of weight gain does have to do with diet, but there are thousands of diets and most of them cost a small fortune to keep up too:: Jenny Craig=$400 per month, or more. NutriSystem=$400 per month or more. These diets work but they also require a lot of money to stay on them.
People who live in poverty tend to buy foods they can cook a lot of and foods that will last more than 1 day, or through more than one meal. There are very few healthy foods out there that don't cost a lot of money. Has anyone been to the grocery lately besides me?
No, just don't make personal choices that will cost ME money because I need to subsidize your medical bills because you can't control your addictions.
Thats the cost of living in a free society because whatever choice I make over my own life will always have an impact somewhere on someone else. That is inescapable because we do not live in a bubble where our decisions have no affect on others but I actually choose to live with the "effect" in order to preserve a free society where people can make their own decisions.
Right. Just so long as you're happy and content with your lifestyle (which might have an effect on others), screw everybody else. I got mine. That attitude represents selfishness, not "freedom." This whole new concept of "freedom" has been seriously distorted lately.

Its really not a new concept but just normal. Its the progressive movement in this country with their desire to control everyone else's behavior that came up with a good excuse for doing it by saying "it might affect someone else" so now the thing you could do freely before is now "regulated". Its a crying shame that people who suposely* call themselves "liberal" actually think of excuses to deny other people the freedom to do what they want to do with their lives.
PS...we're fat because we eat too much. Food is cheap and plentiful, easily accessible, and continually advertised so when we see something that takes our fancy we can hop in our cars and drive around the corner and pick it up.
I blame television. And cars.
No, we're fat for two reasons:
1. Genetics ... humans just get fat sometimes.
2. Bad eating ... we eat too much preservatives and non-digestible chemicals.
3. Overeating of things that taste good.

No, not really, apples, oranges, bananas taste good to most people and are very healthy no matter how much you eat. Almost everyone likes real cheese, which is also really healthy. Meat should be eaten conservatively for many reasons but that's about the only truly tasty food (that's natural) which can be over eaten. Most grains are not favorites but are important. Hell, I love lemons and limes ... which are healthy for a ton of reasons. When people think they are craving candy, they usually are craving something like fruits or even veggies but mistaken the flavor for candy.

Yup and if people would eat fruit on a daily basis their 'sugar craving' would greatly, greatly diminish. And when they did eat candy they'd be satisfied with far less . . . .

Sometimes the Government just needs to be told to SHUT THE H*ll UP!! Now they're going to hike taxes on Soda and Potato Chips? "Yea lets get all those "Evil" Fat People!" Next phase will be creating a Fat Police Gestapo like they now have in Great Britain. Socialism/Communism has never lead to more Freedoms & Liberties for the people. Instead it has always lead to less Freedoms & Liberties for the people. So why do so many support it? So many seem so willing to just give all their Freedom away. Pretty sad and perplexing.

And yet oddly enough, the Brits seem to be quite happy people. Next?

Many people living under NAZIism were pretty delighted as well.

Shows you know nothing of history, either. The Nazis had some social policies in place, sure, but as a government structure they were not a socialist system by any stretch of the imagination. Look what happened to dissenters in Nazi Germany. And any "socialist" policies propagated by the Nazis were not actually extended to all German citizens. German Jews, for example, hardly benefited from any Nazi "socialist" policy, but Aryans sure did.
In 2016, around one in three women and one in four men worldwide were not reaching the recommended levels of physical activity to stay healthy — at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise a week. There has been no improvement in global levels of physical activity since 2001, according to the study, which was conducted by WHO researchers and published Tuesday in The Lancet Global Health. The highest rates of lack of exercise in 2016 were in adults in Kuwait, American Samoa, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, where more than half of all adults were not active enough to protect their health.

By comparison, around 40 percent of adults in the United States, 36 percent in Britain and 14 percent in China did too little exercise to stay healthy. "Unlike other major global health risks, levels of insufficient physical activity are not falling worldwide, on average, and over a quarter of all adults are not reaching the recommended levels of physical activity for good health," said Regina Guthold of the WHO, who co-led the research.
Noncommunicable diseases
The WHO says insufficient physical activity is one of the leading risk factors for premature death worldwide. It raises the risk of noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes. By becoming more active, it says, people can easily achieve benefits such as improve muscular and cardiorespiratory fitness, better bone health, weight control and reduced risk of hypertension, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, depression and various types of cancer.
The study found that levels of low physical activity were more than twice as great in high-income countries compared with poorer nations, and had increased by 5.0 percent in richer countries from 2001 to 2016. In wealthier countries, the researchers said, a transition toward more sedentary jobs as well as sedentary forms of recreation and transport could explain higher levels of inactivity. In less well-off countries, people tend to be more active at work and for transport, they said. They urged governments to take note of these changes and put in place infrastructures that promote walking and cycling for transport and active sports and recreation.
