Years ago a prison sentence used to include the words "hard labor" but we seemed to have thrown that concept out the window. As long as we agree that America's refuge system is in trouble maybe society can fence in dump sites and use convicted criminals to sort out junk

They are paid pennies per hour, forced to work every day, and basically get nothing in return. The only thing they can buy are overpriced items from the commissary. If they refuse to work they will be locked up in the "hole" which is a one man cell 23 hours a day, no phone, no visits, no rec, no nothing.

This is known as forced labor.

You act as if that's a bad thing. They are criminals after all, they chose to not be a part of a decent society.

But then again I think everyone should have to work. Even the guy with no legs in a wheelchair that's a host at a local restaurant managed to work there for like 20 years now.
