Here we go again.
Hagel Says Cuts to Pay and Benefits are Needed | Military.com

This will certainly reduce the number of those seeking a military career as well as cause those who are currently in a career mode to get out.

The strength of a nation's military sends a message to the world. Every time we have reduced the size of our military, we have ended up rushing to build it up again. The Korean and Vietnam Wars are perfect examples.

Note that Hagel is pointing the finger at congress and the sequester cuts. Watch how this turns into a claim that an irrisponsible grid locked House of Representatives controlled by Republicans is jeopardizing American security.

Somebody please read the fucking article. He is talking about cuts to INCREASES in pay, and in some peripheral benefits.

The all-volunteer Army was a bad idea and it remains a bad idea. The bulk of our military forces should be made up of conscripts, taken at random from the entire MALE population, with no deferments other than to men who are either physically or mentally unable to do ANYTHING. The average age should be 19 years old. Being a career soldier should be a privilege, reserved for only the top 10% of those who apply, and compensation should not be sufficient to support a family until at least E-7 or captain (O-3)

Because we have an all-volunteer Army, we have provided compensation levels that encourage low-level enlisted personnel to think that they can SUPPORT A FAMILY on their wages and benefits as, for example, a P. F. Fucking C. Then we whine that some of them have to sign up for Food Stamps. This is nonsense on steroids.

You cannot pay someone enough to risk their life for their country (or, as in the case of a policeman or fireman) to risk their life every day in service to their fellow citizens. But this does not mean that you must pay some entry-level grunt a "living wage."

If we had military forces drawn from all levels of society, I guaran-fuckin'-tee that we wouldn't be fucking around in Iraq, Afghanistan, or any of those other God-forsaken shitholes in the Arab-Islamic world.

I disagree. All Volunteer army leads to better motivated, better educated, better compensated, military.

It also is abetter more confident military as well.

As someone who served both during the draft and after, I cannot agree more about the need to return to the draft. An "all volunteer" or mercenary military IS NOT in the best traditions of this nation. Universal service should be instituted BUT NOT just for military service.

Hagel was an Infantry Squad Leader withe 9th ID in Vietnam and was awarded 2 Purple Hearts. His lacks of passion for his brother and sister In Country Vietnam Vets as well as those who came after us.

The ruthless administration will punish American citizens and Military personnel in order to play political games, point fingers and obscure their own failures.

I agree! We have a large generation of immature people who do not know the meaning of hard work, smart decision making, team work, self discipline, leadership and much more.
