A Sad Day

I have heard much discussion this morning about why McCain lost, why Obama won. Basically, McCain was the wrong Republican candidate. (I still blame Fred Thompson for dragging his feet too long. I think he was the best choice to take on the Obama machine.)
McCain is too old, still tries to rely on his war service, which was admirable, but too long ago, to win people over. He was not forceful enough and was too forthcoming about a lot of things, that is a dangerous thing in politics.

I would not have voted for Hillary because I did not believe in her policies and political views, even though as a woman, I would have been proud to have a female president, I would NEVER waste my vote just to get a female elected. But, in hindsight, I would gladly have voted for Hillary over Obama any day. At least with her, I did not have to fear being sold out to Muslims or some other group.

But, as to why Obama won, several reasons. He had sooooo much money to spend to convince people of how wonderful he is. He had the right look, the right age and spoke all the things people want to hear - I'm going to make it all better, I'm going to give you what you need, I will provide free blah, blah, blah. I feel like we now have a slick used car salesman for president. I believe if I hear the word "change" one more time, I will actually puke.

And, way, way too many people (black and white alike) voted for him because he is black. Hey, if I was black, I am sure I would be extremely proud and excited that we have our first black president. Can't blame them for that. I am actually proud that our country has come that far. But, I did not vote for him because he is black. I did not vote for him because he is not the right person for the job; his policies stink. And, it is a shame that so many people refused to see what he really stood for and only voted for him to prove they could put a black president in the white house. I bet 3 out of 4 who voted for him have no idea what his stand on most of the issues was.

Well, it has been done. I can only hope and pray that the checks and balances set up by our founding fathers really work. I do not want my children and grandchildren to grow up in a quasi socialist society where nobody needs to work hard to achieve because all you have to do is put your hand out and the government will provide all your needs.
Well, you wanted him. I hope we all don't live to regret it.

However, why write him off before he even has a chance to prove whether his policies work or not? We all know that Bush's didn't, and that the GOP's didn't. Might as well try something else. I'm not a Democrat and I don't worship Obama like many do, and I don't trust politicians AT ALL, but I'll let him try and if he does alright, well, that's better than Bush EVER did.

And if McCain had been elected, I would do the same. McCain, however, isn't Bush and thank God for that!

Millions of people are celebrating today because it was a historical moment in history and your going to say it was a "sad day"? I bet it was a sad day when lincoln freed the slaves too, it was sad for slave owners. I bet it was a sad day when women got the right to vote? You idiot, weather you like Obama or not, weather you voted for him or not.......today is not a "sad day"......you prick......it is one of the most important days in our or anyones generation. It is a day in which democracy has been executed to its fullest, not a "sad day".......Nothing about democracy is a sad day okay moron.

When that was not proving to be an asset what does he do? He grabs Sarah Palin out of the wilderness .... (no one had ever heard of her - and he tried cramming her down our throats) ... to become the Republican Ms. Mavrick (that he soon found out even he could not control her mouth). Go figure.

Perhaps much more depressing to me than either candidate, is how little the American electorate really looks at 'core beliefs.' At school my principal forced upon me, to make her daughter the 6th grade teacher look good, the task of having the 8th graders research and present the two major candidates position on:

abortion
economy
health care
war

Her daughter had obtained a grant for technology, so we have a closed circuit television system within our school, teleprompter and all. The kids would present the 'positions' via news broadcast, and the whole school would vote on Nov. 4th. After fisticuffs broke out in kindergarten and 2nd grade, it was 'decided' abortion would be dropped as one of the topics. We are a Catholic school.

Basically I set aside 4 class periods for the kids to research the positions of both McCain and Obama. At the beginning there were 6 out of 17 for Obama. As they compiled side by side positions, the votes for Obama dropped to 1. The other 5 went on to bring their findings home to parents. One parent called me and said, "Where did you tell the students to look for Senator Obama's position?" When I said, "His official website," the father said, "I didn't know this." My question to the electorate, why don't they know? Neither gentleman hid their views, they were out there.

It's not brain surgery or rocket science.

Republicans can look in a mirror and see why they lost last night. Voting a flaming idiot into office for two terms was more than most could endure. Obama basically ran against McCain and Bush.

Republicans lost beecause their whole argument was a hypocrisy. Blaming democrats for large government and spending when their admin seen the most spending and growth in government ever. Callin Obama's tax plan a redistribution of wealth when all taxes are a redistribution of wealth. Callin Obama a socialist when America is clearly a socialist nation wiith programs like social security and medicare. Alienation of the latino vote with their radical immigration stance. 8 years of failed policies will not go unpunished

It's really not that hard to find out something about the candidates, whoever you vote for.

It's amazing that so many people seem to blindly vote for someone whether it's because of the color of their skin or some other inconsequential factor. Don't misread this -- I think that we have elected the first black president is monumental and beyond historical. But to be honest, I don't care that he is black. He could be green with blond hair, Swedish legs, Oriental eyes, Egyptian hands, Irish feet and JLo's ass and it wouldn't make one bit of difference to me. I am looking at his voting record, his past associations, his history of being drawn to socialists and marxists, that he chose his friends 'carefully' in college, that he chose marxists professors in college, that he chose to launch his political career in the Chicago living room of Ayers, a domestic terrorist who proclaimed to be a marxist, and his wife Bernardine Dohrn, who once gave a speech extolling socialism, communism and "marxism-leninism", who was mentored for 20 years by the racial, radical, black liberation theology preacher Rev. Wright. How does this not at least raise some questions about Barack Obama from everyone? If even one of these things arose about McCain, would your reaction be the same? Wouldn't it at least peak your interest and want to find out more about him? Doesn't this make you at least wonder what his agenda really is? Perhaps he is the moderate they are trying to portray (being called the most liberal member of the Senate makes me doubt this). Talk is cheap, it's what you do that counts. I'll be watching like so many others and praying that he not only talks the talk, but walks the walk.

I know many that are like this. Neighbors mom found out where they stood on the issues last night. She voted for Obama strictly on what she saw on TV and her union. She's pissed. She didn't want to hear what anyone said. I didn't get a chance to talk with her until after her ballot was mailed. If people had voted with their brains McCain would of won. But no they voted on 'hope'... To quote another poster... "Hope in one hand, shit in the other..."
