Several GOP Senators have stated they won't run for reelection in 2018. In some cases, they made that choice because they could not countenance officially/formally being part of Trump's party and thinking they could not win in a Trumpian party.
Though I'm not a Republican (nor am I a Democrat), I do think the Senate (and House) need representatives of fine ethical character, or at least markedly more fine than is found in Donald Trump, and at least two of the GOP senators, Flake and Corker, seem to imbued with at least some extent of that finer character, even though they may differ with me on a variety of issues.
I wonder whether Doug Jones' win will inspire some of them to recant. That a Democrat, running against the bulwark of Trump's full throated support of the Republican, won a Senate seat in "ruby red" AL may well give Republican senators like Flake and Corker pause. Certainly as incumbents, they have the recognition and track record needed to change their minds and reenter the race.
