Should our govt drill the oil leases that the oil companies do not?

Produce oil to increase supply and lower oil prices and use the profit to pay against the debt.
It would also create jobs.

No, EnviroMarxists insist that oil is the one commodity impervious to the basic laws of supply and demand.

Poll?

also should not the govt be involved in oil since it is an issue of national security?

The leases are granted but the right to drill on the leased land is not.

Will the government grant itself the right to drill when it has denied that right to the oil companies?

Business ExchangeBuzz up!DiggPrint Email .Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Europe’s largest oil company, said it may ask the U.S. to extend leases off the Alaska coast beyond 2015 after delays in issuing permits forced the company to put off drilling until next year.

The government is the entity that is preventing drilling. You're acting like the kidnap victim who thinks the kidnapper is her friend.

Where does the government keep all it's drilling rigs ?

Absofuckinglutely not!!! If the government got in the oil business, they would be in competition with private sector business. Put that kind of power in the hands of government and it 2 years only the government would still be in the oil business and 6 months later gasoline would cost a hundred dollars a gallon and they'd still be loosing money.

Do not be so selective in you articles, there are many oil leases just sitting there ready to drill that are not being drilled.
Remember Alaska and Exxon? Do a google and educate yourself.

Wrongo, we are in a global oil market.

The same places oil companies do. Many oil companies actually lease the rig and crew.
Who did the rig in the Gulf belong to that spilled all the oil?
Not BP.

Companies lease large quantities of land for exploration. Much of the land under lease that hasn't been drilled yet has been deemed uneconomic. That is, the cost of extraction is greater than the value of the minerals extracted.

So your proposal is to have the government pay 1.05 for oil worth 95 cents.

Over time, as the price of oil moves, or the technology moves, oil that was not feasible yesterday becomes feasible tomorrow.

I don't believe it is wise to pay extra for lower value and have the government do the stupid.

What's to stop the government from stopping oil imports? They've got airplanes, tanks, bombs and shit.

I'm sure the government would be more than capable of drilling unpromising or worthless acreage.
They're experts at wasting money.

Poll?

This is precisely why the government should get the fuck out of the way and let the experts do their job.

Why thank you. Coming from you, I consider it a compliment.
I was trying to carry it to the absurd.
It's a real bad idea to put the government in competition to the businesses it has the power to regulate.
Government has no real incentive to earn a profit and could use regulatory power to destroy the oil corporations who actually have the expertise, equipment and experience to run oil companies.

Well why did Exon sue alaska to keep them from reletting leases that exon had been sitting on for many years?
Your post is true in some cases, but only some not all.

Six months later gas would cost 100 a gallon, bomb to prevent imports, etc.

Man you need to think a little bit.
