Konta claims biggest career title at Miami Open

For people who like "traditional" tennis, this was one of the more enjoyable stops on the Womens' tennis tour so far this year. Johanna Konta stormed through the draw and Saturday defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the final at Miami.

Konta played an aggressive, fan-friendly game, going for winners constantly and coming to the net whenever possible, against the boring (but effective) style of Wozniacki, who for the most part just keeps hitting the ball back and hoping for an unforced error.

Chalk one up for the game of tennis.

On the mens' side, today's final (1300 EDT) will feature a matchup of Roger Federer, who squeaked through the last two rounds on third-set tiebreakers, against a resurgent Rafa Nadal. While there is no question about who is truly Number One, this should be an entertaining match as Roger seems to have developed a new weapon - vicious backhand cross-court smash - that has stopped his age-related deterioration in its tracks.

Well worth watching.

I loved watching the tennis when Goolagong was playing; grace and dignity without the testosterone. I hope Konta is of that style but how do they beat the power of other modern players? Playing "like a girl" brought so much to the game; playing like low skilled men? Nah. Barely watch it now.
