WASHINGTON — The online whistle-blower WikiLeaks has posted some 90,000 leaked U.S. military records that amount to an blow-by-blow account of six years of the Afghanistan war, including unreported incidents of Afghan civilian killings as well as covert operations against Taliban figures.

The White House condemned the document disclosure, saying it "put the lives of Americans and our partners at risk."

"The documents posted by Wikileaks reportedly cover a period of time from January 2004 to December 2009," he added. "On December 1, 2009, President Obama announced a new strategy with a substantial increase in resources for Afghanistan, and increased focus on al Qaeda and Taliban safe-havens in Pakistan, precisely because of the grave situation that had developed over several years."[/SIZE]

The classified memos also reveal the secret efforts of coalition forces to hunt down and “kill or capture” senior Taliban and al-Qaeda figures. (sounds like what we should have done nearly a decade ago)

I wonder what it would be like if we went after the man who brought down the World Trade Center and headed a world wide terrorist organization, instead of some moron dictator from a tiny country under sanctions in the Middle East but full of oil not ours. A country full of so many stupid fucks that when given the chance for "democracy", they model their own country after Iran. Was it worth it?

this is going to be huge. it is such an immense amount of information with more coming. the fallout from this will be crazy

From their website:

The reports, while written by soldiers and intelligence officers mainly describing lethal military actions involving the United States military, also include intelligence information, reports of meetings with political figures, and related detail.
A complete and total breach of security.
Is this what "freedom of press" has turned into?

I refuse to link to the website or the links to the documents, themselves.

(...) A country full of so many stupid fucks that when given the chance for "democracy", they model their own country after Iran. Was it worth it?

Disgusting.

I agree. It is disgusting. They could have had a "real" democracy.

Instead, they make "Islam" the "national religion" by constitution (Article 2 of the Iraqi Constitution). They base ALL their legislation on Islam. They put their women in Burkas, kill their gays (although the American right wing might not find that such a bad thing) and they kill or chase away at least half their Christian population out of a home land that was theirs even BEFORE Muslims moved in.

So it IS disgusting. A disaster. A tragedy. A lie. A mistake.

And knowing what it says in the Iraqi Constitution, being able to find a million copies of it on line and still trying to insist Iraq is a "democracy" is not just delusion. In fact - it's "disgusting".

You speak as if US gave away stipendia, and Iraqis rejected good education.
Those "stupid fucks".

No. This was an illegal war with thousands dead, millions becoming refugees,
According to UNHCR estimates, over 4.7 million Iraqis have been displaced since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.[4] The humanitarian crisis in Iraq is the worst in the Middle East since Palestinians were displaced in 1948.[5

I found the part that shows Pakistan supporting the Taliban & Al Qaeda killing our kids in Afghanistan especially disgusting. All those Billions in American Tax Payer Dollars given to Pakistan while they were supporting the Taliban & Al Qaeda all along? All Americans should be outraged over this. In my opinion the Wars are over. Our own President has proclaimed that "Winning is no longer the goal" over there. So what the H*LL are our kids dying for? Time to bring em home. End of story.

this has been known a long time. how do you think the isi suddenly knew where all the big al qaeda and taliban members were when obama told them to either give over the locations or we would bring the drones into real pakistan (and not just the tribal areas)?

Given that the U.S. today continues to follow the course upon which it embarked over a century ago, i.e., that it intends to fuck up everyone's shit in the name of American global hegemony, leaks such as these embody a singularly great allegiance to the value of innocent human life, and to the pursuit of genuine peace. The U.S. government cares about neither. Oh, it says that it does, with the compulsive, nauseating repetitiveness of the most vicious murderer -- and when exactly are murderers notably open and honest about their true motives and goals, especially when they are so devotionally intent upon viewing themselves and making certain that all others view them as noble fighters on behalf of the liberation of all mankind? Do not ever credit in even the smallest degree what is the most obvious and most obviously sickening propaganda and public relations.

What happened to the Wiki Leaks site? Haven't been able to access it all day. Is Homeland Security blocking it from American access? Weird stuff. Hmm?

hmm I just tried to connect in lynx from my box hosted out of the USA and its down there too. I am guessing they are just getting flooded now since a bunch of big newspapers and yahoo etc picked up the latest release.

Just accessed the Wiki Leaks site. There's a lot of stuff to sift through. Should be some very interesting reading for a few days.

Six years' worth of secret U.S. documents relating to the war in Afghanistan have been released by Wikileaks, an Iceland-based website that collects and distributes such information. Some news organizations were given the tens of thousands of documents several weeks early so that they could sift through the files and prepare their coverage. The revelations are sure to spark wide debate about the U.S. role in Afghanistan and the nature of the ongoing war. Here are what currently appear to be the five biggest things we've learned so far.
1 Pakistani Intelligence Possibly Aiding Taliban
2 Drones Less Effective Than Claimed
3 30 Years Later, Taliban Still Have Stingers
4 U.S. and Afghan Officials Covering Up Civillian Deaths
5 Bin Laden Match-Making for Insurgents

Fucking voyeuristic, nit-picking blog-o-bots.
Addicted to their instant news, they pounce on any shred of of a hint of a scandal and post it as the gospel.
Newsflash for the cheeto-stained-finger crowd:
The military does not owe you a detailed report of their operations.
Things happen. They are investigated. A conclusion, based on the evidence, is made.
You stop at the "things happen" stage, attach your own prejudices, assign blame, and report it as fact.
