9.8 ...Unemployment

With an increasing population and a decreasing job base, ten percent unemployment is the new norm. And neither government or business is willing or able to do anything about it.

Better get used to it.

Oh brother....I just listened to this from the Obama camp. Now it's the talking points from the left. When a president is in over his head with managing his position....it becomes the "new standard" then becomes a talking point. All it really is, is a deflection of blame from Barry (Mr. Teflon).

whenever they cannot manage the system, its is because its 'broken'....they are setting up for 2012, as they know after reports from the fed etc. and the fact that forecasting appears to be all over the map vis a vis jobs etc. they are in real danger of a an unemployment above 9.0, damn I hope not but......if it is? good night nurse.

What's to blame him for? SPECIFICALLY.

So, by 2012, unemployment is still over 9% and the deficit is still over a trillion dollars and interest rates are still around zero and the Republicans take over...

...what will they do?

Balance the budget like they keep promising? Shrink the size of government? And that will bring on the jobs, eh?

Seriously, what will the GOP do? I mean, besides sit around with their fingers crossed hoping they caught the economy at a turning point...

meanwhile Germany's unemployment rate in June 2009 was 7.7%, last month?

wait for it...

I said wait for it damn it!!!

6.6%.

So the lesson is that we should have ...

... more socialism?

if thats your take:lol: ....if theres one person I expected a non knee jerk response from it was you. you know that Germany and several other European nations in 2007 started ratcheting down their corp. tax rates for instance, real estate laws etc., grappling with adjusting entitlements etc. They didn't follow us as to massive spending, merkel built in savings to her last austerity measure in june without tax increases to boot, they had record growth in Q2, , so theres a lesson there somewhere...no?

No.

Dude, despite all that, Germany is still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more socialist than America. About half of Germany's GDP comes from government spending, far more than here. It's laws are much more restrictive on labour and business.

Germans generally regard their economic structure as the reason why they didn't experience the same boom and bust that America did. Capital was more restricted, so there wasn't a housing boom. Their social security net provided a cushion for the increase in unemployment, so their economy did not contract as much. And since it is more difficult to fire people in Germany because of greater union power, corporations couldn't fire as many workers anyways. They often deride "Anglo-American" capitalism as being cruel and inhumane.

You are completely misreading what has happened if you think that small spending and tax cuts had anything to do with what has gone on Germany. A similar analogy is that Cuba has made it slightly less restrictive on business over the past five years, and they too did not have a horrendous recession.

BTW, Sweden has a lower tax rate on capital and corporate profits than in America. But they, like Germany, tax income much higher than here and have a VAT tax. Would you argue that Sweden is a model to follow for America?

The economy has recovered. There are no jobs because thanks to you free traders, we have an economy that doesn't require mass amounts of labor to run, and expand.

The economy hasn't revcovered.....that's the problem, it's still limping. Keep listening to your administration, though. Listen to all the jobs "created and saved" while your at it. :cuckoo:

Once again, I simply post facts, to, as usual, end the debate:

That is an economic recovery. Is it a jobless recovery? More or less. But it is a recovery. You conservatives should love this recovery,

improved GDP without having to spend a whole lot on labor. Isn't that the Capitalist's best case scenario?

For the love of God....you can't seriously be looking at that chart as I am and see around 2.5% as a recovered economy, can you?:lol::lol::lol:
Your right the debate is over. :cuckoo:

It's on the list of things to do folks......But first we have to look into Don't ask don't tell. Then we need to make sure all the illegals who crossed over with the kiddies in tow or had them later on are granted amnesty then are given a fully paid college education thanks to Uncle Sam or the taxpayers take your pick. Then we need to make sure Americans are eating correctly. Then at some point this administration will get around

This administration could do what's needed to get people working but they would rather just dick around and do other things instead.

Any specifics on what this admin could do to get people working?
Aside from the mythological tax cuts and deregulation.

I do agree that this admin AND the congress (both sides) have sat on their butts about the jobs issue though.
10% across the board tax rate reductions.

Getting worse at a slower pace isn't "recovery."

His failed stimulus, his GM shell game, his financial industry micromanagement and control, and his "shovel ready" scam.

2.5% growth is too low to keep up with rate of population growth.

It's not a real recovery.

And Real Capitalists want Real Customers. A Recovery that does not produce jobs is a fictitious definition cooked up by government bureaucrats.

Hopefully they'll get out of the way and stop trying to centrally plan the economy. At best they will probably just intrude less, which will still be an improvement.

"Of all occupations those are the least desirable in a free state which produce the most servile dependence of one class of citizens on another class. This dependence must increase as the mutuality of wants is diminished. Where the wants on one side are the absolute necessaries and on the other are neither absolute necessaries, nor result from the habitual economy of life, but are the mere caprices of fancy, the evil is in its extreme"

-- James Madison; from Fashion (1792)

I have not created a system where one class depends on another class. My system employs people who work and produce value despite being told I'm too stupid to manage my own finances. The current system where 2% are being targeted to pay up for the wants and needs of the other 98% creates that dependence you seem to not like. How does that work out if I just quit because it's no longer worth the trouble?

Only to be forced into admitting there was no such thing as "Shovel Ready"

In a tyranny? They'll force you to work regardless for the Greater Good.

I don't recall endorsing tyranny on here... just the philosophy of the author of our Bill of Rights O_O
