42% of Democrats are in Favor of Socialism

They ask a whole 1,000 out of hundreds of millions and you expect people to believe the poll results are true to the actual mood of the nation?
I know the idiots will believe it..

More to the point --- did the poll even ask or define what respondents think the term means and whether they buy the McCarthyesque perversions of it?

Seems more like a poll on the terminology than on stuff like social security and public libraries.

{EDIT} Confirmed. The full poll is posted here. It gives no description or definition of the terms "socialism", captialism" or "democratic socialism", meaning the definition is left entirely to the respondent, which of course will vary tremendously according to what each respondent understands the terms to mean.

And that in turn means it's a poll about the terminology, not the ideology. It cannot mean anything else.

Since no common definition is established, in effect the question this poll asks is "do you have a favorable or unfavorable emotional association with the term socialism? That tells us virtually nothing about Bernie Sanders, or about the practice of socialism itself. It tells far more about those who have exploited the term, from Adolf Hitler to the USSR to the McCarthyists.
Well isn't that how the pundits for the right define and use it? Not to identify with anything concrete and formed, but as a generality of that's bad M'Kay.

Too bad that that 42% can't go over to Europe and live there for 6 months to a year to find out the bad things of Socialism.
Interesting story:
Back in the late sixties many of us budding socialist hippies, most of us fresh out of community colleges AKA Liberal Indoctrination Centers tapped our hard working steady REP voting parents for the money to 'see the world'. Many of us ended up in places like Tibet/China etc.
We all had vehemently shouted down wicked 'Capitalism!
What a hilarious fucking joke! Some of us stayed and started our own 'American Style' pie shops and burger joints. There was NO WAY we'd live like the ignorant peasants. I rented a beautiful hill top villa with a full time cook and a full time housekeeper for 100 US bucks a month. My 'allowance' from my parents was at the time $500 a month. Many more came home having first made agreements with local fabric business to import CHEAP!!!!!!!!!! goods from these countries. Many still are doing this decades later. ALL of them vote REP now.
Virtually ALL of us ended up being the fucking 'Capitalist Pigs' we hated before we flew from our prosperous REP voting parent's nests.
Maggie Thatcher said: "Socialism is great until you run out of other people's money to spend". Give that a think all you silly LIB children.
There's nothing like living in a country living in poverty under a Socialist/Communist government to give you the 'Come To Jesus Moment'.

Shush now, they have a hard time with proper usage.....That is why mob rule works so well with them, look at how Trump has used it to build his coalition on platform, planks and crystal night activities...

Despite all the nuttiness in the GOP, this is a big reason why I'm a Republican.

Many Democrats are feeling the love for socialism.

More than four in 10 Democrats say they have a favorable opinion of socialism, according to a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults released in January by data and research firm YouGov; this percentage is nearly identical to what the researchers found in May of last year. Meanwhile, only about one in three say they have an unfavorable opinion of the ideology. ...

On the whole, nearly half of all Americans say they have an unfavorable opinion of socialism, the YouGov survey revealed.

42% of Democrats are in favor of socialism

What percentage of GOP voters can define socialism and explain how it differs from other forms of Government?

What percentage of GOP voters can name all the socialized areas of American government and life?

Not quite. They decided to take the money from the government. That's not the same thing as government controlling them.

....and THAT shows exactly why right wingers have NO idea of what "democratic socialism" really means.

BTW, VOTING is a socialistic activity.

Exactly. And that's why it's a poll about semantics, and not one about philosophies.

How so?
Govt. paid them to grow or not to grow....

Not quite. They decided to take the money from the government. That's not the same thing as government controlling them.
If the govt tells you not to grow anything on a plot of land and pays you to do it, it is a form of socialism, just like if they tell that farmer to plant a certain crop..That is govt. controlling the output of an industry....Of course now, they do not pay subsidies....Now they help you to get insurance to cover the crop or animal husbandry...

Depends how you define socialism. As far as Americans that have an unfavorable opinion of it - it depends how they define socialism, also.

Here's a very brief definition for all you right wingers who interpret "socialism" to what may go on in North Korea..

Democratic socialism believes that both the economy and society should be run democratically—to meet public needs, not to make profits for just a few.

And to go further, there are socialist republicans, progressive republicans.......It is not an ideology planted in one party...

42% openly favor it, the other 58% favor it but are just too dumb to know that they do

something we can ALL look forward to if the Democrats have their way. it's time the people woke up to that party of snakes you all elected. and also deprogram you children from the teaching of these Commie camps called: public schools and Universities.

Venezuela shopping centres halve opening times as crisis bites

Image caption Blackouts, common in some rural parts of Venezuela, have also hit the capital, Caracas, because of the drought.
Shopping centres in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, say they will be halving their opening times to four hours a day.

The move will allow them to comply with government energy rationing.

Ministers says a severe drought caused by El Nino has brought 18 of the country's hydro-electric dams to critically low water levels.

A spokesman for the country's retail association said the drop in working hours would have an impact on jobs.

The state energy corporation (Corpoelec) had wanted cuts twice a day, between 1pm and 3pm and then again between 7pm and 9pm.

The retail association, The Chamber of Venezuelan Commercial Centres (Cavececo), said it had made an alternative proposal: that shops should open late at 12:00 and close at 19:00 saving five hours of energy use daily.

But they had not received a response to this suggestion, the organisation said.

"To turn the lights off at one in the afternoon and not to be able to work would have a huge impact on our business," said Mleidys Galves who works in a pizzeria in the Lider Shopping Centre in Caracas.

"That is our peak selling time when people come out to eat lunch."

Cavececo said opening and closing twice in a day would be disastrous for banking operations, health centres, servicing companies, pharmacies, supermarkets and particularly restaurants that depended on electrical energy to preserve and refrigerate their products.

However, the reduction to only four hours a day would also have an impact on businesses that ran two work shifts which represents around 75% of employees in shopping centres.

The government has also asked private residences to start saving energy and has been rationing domestic water supplies since January.

Because they are naïve and lazy
All economic/political/property theories have good aspects to them. It is the end game and how they go about it that you have to recognize.
From your link(then click on yougov link), it seems to be mostly "young adults" 18-29. Which, stands by my first point lol.
These people come up thinking everyone/thing, even the Earth, owes you something. Its bullshit.
It's because jobs no longer offer the benefits of medical coverage and pensions. Once those benefits were washed out of the labor market, people started to seek out benefits through government.

If Conservatives had not catered to the business community and looked the other way while living wages and benefits were bleached out of employment, those same Conservatives are using invectives and epithets to paint the labor force as "lazy and naïve". Such a view is itself lazy and naive.

Voting is socialist? Please explain this, I could use a good laugh.

trolls for THE DNC don't care how dumb they look. I just hope they pay good, but I imagine they would do it for free for: the PARTY

There's nothing like living in a country living in poverty under a Socialist/Communist government to give you the 'Come To Jesus Moment'.

So, mommie and daddie fund your trip. Then you live in China and eventually flood this country with cheap goods, undercutting American workers and of course now you vote republican. Maybe your "come to Jesus moment" will be when your livelihood will be taken away by unfair competition. You had parents with good intentions, however, now you will never know if you could have made it on your own from the beginning.
