40 Reasons why Baseball is better than football

Watching:
(1) Football
(2) Baseball/Basketball tie
(4) Mixed Marital Arts
(5) Golf
(6) Soccer/Futbol
(7) Hockey
(8) Boxing
(9) La Crosse
(10) Water-Polo

Playing:
(1) Football (Back in Highschool with the pads on it was more fun than any other sport)
(2) Golf
(3) Ultimate Frisbee
(4) Softball
(5) Racketball
(6) Basketball
(7) Floor Hockey
(8) Wrestling
(9) Boxing
(10) Baseball (since I haven't played it in over a decade)

Baseball loses a lot of points IMO because of the relative lack of teamwork required. Sure, there are examples where two or three players work together to get a guy out or turn a double play for example. But by and large, baseball is a sport dominated by the individual. Players on last place teams often do well in the MVP voting in baseball. That seldom happens in football for a reason.

Another way to look at it is this: Consider a championship played between the team that actually won the title for the sport, played against a team made up of all-stars from all the remaining teams. In baseball, my money is on the all-stars everytime, in football, just the opposite. To win in football, you need to execute as a team. If one guys doesn't do his job, you lose. In baseball you only need a handful of individuals to execute better than the individuals on the other team.

I see your point but the 21st century Yankees and the WBC's USA and Dominican teams might want to have a word with you.

Hockey > Football > Soccer > Baseball > Basketball > everything else.

Baseball is just way too slow, and other than the occasional coach getting mouthy with an umpire there is no action!!!

To be a fan of baseball you have to love the game. It's not about fast action. If that's all you're looking for in a sport, you're missing out.

To be a fan of football, you have to understand and love the game! I would take the excitment of a 50 year break away run for a touchdown over a grand-slam any day. Or a Hester kick off run back for a TD over a walk-off homer any day!

Compare the draft days! There is no comparison!

Have you ever read the disclaimers at the bottom of a company's earnings release? The same concept applies: Past performance is no indicator or guarantee of future results. :D

baseball is better because it's easier to fall asleep watching and the games have the potential of lasting hours and hours thereby extending nap time.

Ghook, you said baseball is last on your list of sports you like to play. I find that people who don't actually play the game themselves don't appreciate it nearly as much.

I play in a pretty competitive softball league so I get to live the game beyond just watching it on TV or at the ballpark. It keeps the love alive. Plus I played baseball my whole childhood life all the way through high school. It's just in my blood.

I would have traded 10 eagles super bowls for that one world series we got last year. After my son being born, that was the greatest moment ever for me.

And Mani, you oversimplified it in that last post. It's not as individualistic as it appears. In fact, the only time it really is, is when you're batting. And even then, guys on base can do a lot to help your at-bat, especially the speedsters. Just getting in the pitcher's head can help the batter out a lot.

Then there's the coaching moves, the counter-moves, the fact that you don't get to come out of the game and go back in later. Each park has its own special dimensions that are unique to a given game situation. Just look at Houston's outfield for example. It's the ego-driven selfish players that have made a bad name for the sport with their stat padding, but I think MOST players are about their team.

I used to love playing in back in highschool! However, I haven't played real baseball in over a decade. The closest I come is softball, which is pretty damn fun in its own right

Same here! Starting with teeball all the way to Varsity Baseball my Jr and Sr year in highschool.

I am a Cubs fan so it would be hard for me to say I would trade one Cubs WS for another Bears superbowl! But don't get me wrong I am a huge baseball fan, but if I had to choose one sport its definitely football.

I have a bone to pick Phillie's fan! What is up with Hamels, he was the 2nd pitcher I picked up on my fantasy team this season and he has been a DL specialist this season! Don't tell me you have a Mark Prior on your hands!

Baseball is awesome in person yet sucks on TV. Football is meh in person yet rules on TV.

I played baseball in college yet think it is almost as boring as soccer to watch on TV.

I couldn't disagree more! Everything is better to watch when your there (even a below 0 Bears game when they are getting their ass's kicked), but watching the game on TV is great also!

Football is custom made for television. With the average time between plays, they could theoretically show every play 3 or 4 times from all angles. That would be awesome. But instead I have to see 4 thousand %&*%$ promos for Two and Half Men!

basketball and football are quite different games from each other since one is played with hands and the other is played with legs therefore i cant compare them both.

Baseball has better movies by far.

brians song

longest yard

north dallas forty

paper lion

Are those supposed to somehow compare to Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, and The Natural?

Even Sandlot is better than those movies, manu. But you have to be a real baseball fan to agree with that.

In their day, the EASILY compared. They were just as popular then as the ones you posted were when they came out.

Watching MLB is like watching Bowling for Dollars.

those were good movies as well......baseball bores me to tears.....so does football for that matter......

Oh, so then what are you doing in this subforum, much less this this type of thread?

Stepping all over your partisan cheerleading. "Better" is in the eyes of the beholder.
