Repatriation flights for Mexican illegal immigrants ended Tuesday returning the most people back to Mexico since the program started.

A total of 23,384 people were flown from Tucson to Mexico City this summer.

The repatriation-flight program, in its seventh year, began June 1. The program allows illegal border-crossers apprehended in the Yuma and Tucson sectors to accept a flight to Mexico City and a bus ticket to their home towns.

In the four months of the program, two flights left daily from Tucson International Airport.

The program is run jointly by the U.S. and Mexican governments. The idea is to break the cycle of people crossing the border, then being bused back to Mexico, only to re-unite with smugglers and try crossing again. It’s run in the summer to help people avoid the risk of dying in their desert trek.

About 116,000 illegal immigrants have taken the flights back during the seven years of the program. More than 1,500 people have died crossing into the Tucson sector during the same period.

And who foots the bill???? Or is it dumb to ask?

They should have to walk back...the same route they took to get here. Only in America! And everyone wonders why things are so screwed up here?

23,384 illegal immigrants that got across are gone. Ingrate. That is 23,384 less on your parole. Say a little prayer of thanks.

Sending them back does not work because the Mexican govt wants them out of Mexico:

"Sid Franes, a retired intelligence officer and police detective, pretty much nailed it with this statement:

"It's old news that the Mexican government exports Mexico's poorest citizens into the United States for a number of reasons: It relieves them of the responsibility of providing social and healthcare services for them; it provides their country's economy with an influx of US cash when these illegal workers send money they earn in the US back home; and it defuses problems with far-left groups who are usually successful in using the poor to advance their political agenda. So the Mexican despots give the poor the 'bum's rush' out of Mexico: Here's your sombrero, here's a map, here's a bottle of water, now get out! And American political leaders such as President Barack Obama are too busy fiddling with the U.S. economy to do anything to protect American citizens,"
Nealz Nuze: October 4, 2010 Archives on boortz.com

Until that changes and until the USA gets serious about illegal immigration, the exodus from Mexico will only increase.

I see a lot of super patriotic american clowns on this Board blaming "Mexico's white elites" for the poverty of Mexican Indians and Mestizos.

But interestingly enough I don't see any of these same clowns blaming themselves (White America) for all the violence, poverty, graffiti and stink of urine of the typical American black ghetto.

If they wanted to prevent people avoid the risk of dying in their desert trek, then shouldn't we be air conditioning the desert, and setting up drinking fountains?
