2 Studies: Marijuana raises risk of heart attack, heart failure and stroke by up to a THIRD

Whenever someone points out the negative effects of marijuana, some people tell us how other substances widely used are harmful too. As if that mitigates something. Why can’t some people simply accept the fact that it’s not a healthy substance to use? Why must it always be compared to something else?

Sure. You should have the right to put potentially harmful products into your body. Alcohol, marijuana, candy, etc. It’s your choice.
Agree. But when those substances can cause mental impairment of judgment, performance, concentration, reaction time, your employer is within his/her rights to have a zero tolerance for it and the state has an interest in restricting you from certain activities in the interest of public safety.

As candy is rarely associated with physical impairment, I suspect there are few, if any, laws or regulations or policy regarding it.

Did I imply that an employer wouldn’t be within his or her rights to have zero tolerance for anything like that?

Does the state have an interest in restricting people from consuming alcohol?

Like look it up on Google......educate yourself.....I did......you can.

If you're into edibles......you should research what's known, for your own good.
sorry dell, you said it, its up to you to put up the info.....and i know you cant find anything about what you are saying.....because this was done already in another thread about ingesting over smoking...try again dell....

Then do not use it.

Just quit being an asshole authoritarian that wants to control what everyone else does.
Exactly. Alcohol contributes to all sorts of illnesses.

Are we going to go down that road again?

Didn't realize this was a court of law.

If you looked you would realize you're wrong.
sorry dell like i said this thing about ingesting pot has already been done....it has the same effects as smoking it and they could not find anything wrong internally.....your serve buddy....

Exactly.

We all know that
--illegal drugs can and do kill thousands
--being obese can and does kill thousands
--anorexia, bulimia, other eating disorders can and do kill thousands.
--sugar and salt excess is extremely harmful to a number of human organs and contributes to mortality
--smoking tobacco is a leading cause of lung cancer/chawing tobacco greatly increases risk of cancers in the mouth.
--distracted, drunk/drugged driving, weather, reckless driving/road rage, speeding all can cause traffic accidents many of which kill people
--alcohol and other substance abuse can seriously damage the body, brain and/or cause cancer or other deadly conditions.
--shooting, stabbing, drowning, poisoning or beating people often kills them
--prolonged exposure to inclimate conditions, falling off roofs or mountain sides, airplane crashes, falling rock, landslides, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, avalanches, volcanic eruptions etc. etc. etc. can and do kill people

That all these dangerous things exist does not in any way make marijuana either more dangerous or more safe.

Whataboutisms are rarely ever useful or intelligent debate.

But pot advocates are promoting misinfo that pot is safe. They do not include any safety or health warnings on their labeling. They violate the Lady Bird Johnson Highway Beautification Act incessantly with pot billboards along interstates.
There is no accountability. As a result, increased use and thereby increased health risks are incurred by young people. DUI and traffic deaths increase while pot idiots spew their THC gas into public breathing air, putting everyone else at risk.

No law exists that requires them to put warnings on their products such as exist for tobacco and alcohol. Marijuana is technically still illegal at the federal level as a Schedule 1 (most dangerous) drug even, and legalized recreational or even medical marijuana is a relatively new thing in the various states. And look how long such products were sold before those warning labels were required? Hopefully it's just a matter of time but historically it may be a pretty long time.

But the pot process is completely reversed from alcohol and tobacco. The dangers of pot preceded its legalization while alcohol and tobacco restrictions came long after their acceptance.
Our culture is being screwed.

Because other substances are bad too but not outlawed. Why? Why is sugar, which is really harmful, not outlawed?

I hear what you're saying but we have much better science now and more efficient communication now than existed at the turn of the 20th Century.

Remember there used to be a constitutional amendment banning alcohol. And trust me, pretty much everybody knew tobacco and alcohol abuse was not good for us but pushed that knowledge aside because we wanted to use those products. The dangers inherent in alcohol abuse did not change when the Eighteenth Amendment was repealed by the Twenty First Amendment. It was just that banning alcohol was causing more problems than allowing it. It still remains one of the most tightly controlled substances legal for Americans to buy both at the federal and state levels. And one of the most abused.

Those who want to use cannabis now dismiss all the information and warnings put out by the health authorities and medical community and pretend that its safe or the dangers are small enough not to worry about. They strain at gnats trying to discredit the information and warnings about the potential and prevalent dangers in marijuana use.

Such people believed it should be legal when it was not. Such people point to the injustice of incarceration of those whose only crime was possessing it. Such people call the evidence of danger or those of us reporting it as lies/liars. They believe or even argue there is no downside or danger to anybody when they use it. They would not change their mind if all states again banned the stuff.

For sure there were problems when it was illegal everywhere and it could become as bad as it got when the feds actively tried to enforce prohibition. I think that is what keeps the federal government just ignoring and not trying to attempt to enforce federal laws re marijuana. And even some of our favorite legislators don't want to touch that hot potato when they pick and choose what hills to stand and die on.

Because other substances are bad too but not outlawed. Why? Why is sugar, which is really harmful, not outlawed?
Sugar used in moderation is not good for us but it is not provably harmful enough to make an issue of and can increase enjoyment of life. That candy bar or a little sugar in our morning coffee or the birthday cake for junior isn't going to kill or seriously harm anybody while eating 10 or 12 candy bars in a relatively short time or consuming sugar cubes all day can do some serious damage.

Sugar falls in the category of peanuts that are deadly to some but harmless to most or gluten that makes some dangerously ill while most can consume it harmlessly.

And there is no reasonable way to restrict people to only moderate use of sugar in a free market capitalist system. Nor does anybody's use of sugar, even excessively, likely to endanger anybody else as can substances that severely impair judgment, reaction time, ability to do things competently etc.

Dude....you wanna eat it, go for it. Too many advise against it as being unhealthy.
One thing I did notice when looking into the effects of all forms of weed on the body, was, all the sites promoting and selling it had noting but rave reviews for the medical benefits.

This is part of our debate as we speak.

This is part of our debate as we speak.
Those pushing recreational marijuana for its 'medical benefits' I hope are shut down soon. We have always allowed for hyperbole in advertising, but draw the line when claims are made that can seriously harm people. For example you can say your product is the best when it isn't, but you can't say it cures cancer if it won't.

I'm old enough to remember when 'doctors' were featured in cigarette advertisements telling why they prefer this or that brand or you were treated to phrases like 'most doctors smoke. . ." Such advertising would get the hammer whammed down on it these days.

But again legalized medical marijuana is still a fairly new thing--I think California might have first legalized it in the late 1990's?--and legalized recreational marijuana has only been around for 10 years or so. It will take awhile for the regulation to catch up to the laws.
