Passed on May 25, 2007...the Democrat Controlled Congress got their wish...the Federal Minimum Wage was scheduled to increase in three increments....with the first increase taking place on July 24, 2007......

..with that said...look what started going up shortly after the increase....Unemployment began to rise didnt it?....and its been on the rise since....

LIbs.....why not just make the minimum wage $50.00/hr???

Now of course most of you would insist a $50.00/hr minimum wage is ridiculous and obviously wouldnt work.....and yes your correct....and yes your admitting to the fact that increasing the minimum wage is detrimental to any economy....so tell your liberal elitists to STOP doing it....

When will you libs learn you cant dictate and distribute prosperity....an attempt to spread the wealth...only spreads the poverty.....the minimum wage is a great example...

Every time democrats tell you they want to help out....stock up on supplies...and hide your wallet.....

Every minimum wage increase in history....has increased unemployment....

Oh so now it is minimum wage that is killing employers? That's not what they say. They say its because no one is buying anything.

And it really isn't minimum wage jobs that are going overseas. Its better paying jobs that are leaving.

Hell, I bet you minimum wage jobs are doing the best in this country. Them and CEO's.

Everyone in between is getting fucked.

Since Bush has been president:

over 5 million people have slipped into poverty;
nearly 7 million Americans have lost their health insurance;
median household income has gone down by nearly $1,300;
three million manufacturing jobs have been lost;
three million American workers have lost their pensions;
home foreclosures are now the highest on record;
the personal savings rate is below zero - which hasn't happened since the great depression;
the real earnings of college graduates have gone down by about 5% in the last few years;
entry level wages for male and female high school graduates have fallen by over 3%;
wages and salaries are now at the lowest share of GDP since 1929.

And by the way. The GOP knew all this was going to happen. They knew the housing bubble was going to crash. They knew Iraq would take forever. Etc. They purposely spent up a storm in order to bankrupt the treasury and end all the social programs they don't like paying for.

And they have the balls to blame this on the Pelosi/Reed Congress that took over in 2007?

Psssttt, Bush hasn't been president for over 6 months! Pass it on.

Such stupidity. It boggles the mind. So nothing that happened during the Bush administration has had an effect on the failing economy? Is that your point? Or are you just parroting the Idiot Brigade. I'm so disappointed in you.

yes yes.. people JUST started losing their jobs the day minimum wage increased. yup.

in other shocking news, outsourced labor and cheap shit from third world nations is somehow GREAT for our economy! More unbelievable bullshit at 10!

:thup:

It is endlessly funny how the very same silly capitalista fucks who hate facing trade deficits and labor cost based standards of living continue to bray on and on about the cost of labor rather than take their fucking ass TO CHINA, MEXICO OR INDIA. Fuck you. Leave. When you want to seel your products to the US (once the greatest consumer market in the world) then we'll tariff you products and help you understand why a nation of fucking Indian Beggars are not out buying as much as a UAW member even if you have all the cheap labor you could ever want.

Raising minimum wage in the midst of a serious recession is stupid. When you look at the 'big box' companies that have failed, how do you think the smaller guys will exist?

BECAUSE THEY WILL HAVE A LITTLE MORE TO SPEND!!!! Another no-brainer...

Millions of workers will benefit from minimum wage increase

The employers I've talked to said it's the increased taxes combined with min wage increases which are killing them.

Increased min wage is simply a tool to increase money for the gov't anyway. You make more money, you pay more in taxes...you get it. Maybe.

At $7.50 per hour, those folks still don't earn enough to make a dent in any tax revenue expectations.

No. They won't. Prices will more than compensate for. They and we are all f'd.

Based on the figures you posted, I see no strong correlation between the increased minimum wage and unemployment.

What I'm seeing in those stats is the precursor to the current recession. In fact, to some extent, what those figures were showing us was that the recession was already on its way even back in 07.

The official unemployment rate is hovering around 10%, now, isn't it?

That's got nothing to do with the minimum wage increase, and everything to do with the current recession our idiots in the banking community handed us.

There are so few workers making minimum wage affected by the hike when the entire work force is looked at, I don't think minimum wage workers will effect our economy in the positive sense or the negative sense imo....

Sorry Sealy...you're the first to make my ignore list...Obama's election has left you completely deranged.

Once again, the door that always remains closed, who makes 'minimum wage'? You? Didn't thing so, Me? Hardly. My sons, daughter? Nope. Well they did, back when. Like while in high school. I was paying their insurance and buying their books. Those minimum wage jobs, well they were for them and 'saving' for college.

Your OPINON is noted and disregarded. The minimum wage is one of the ONLY methods we have left to ensure that MORE people are capable of consuming MORe goods than the average free market capitalist will allow (as long as there is slave labor in a third world nation ready for employment).

I have a fucking NEWS FLASH for ya... Smaller guys are not thriving regardless. Funny that you bring up big box's though, wally mart.

During times of low unemployment, the minimum wage is ignored because there are too many jobs chasing too few employees. Wages go up and the minimum is forgotten.

During times of high unemployment, the minimum wage may come into play, but only for those who get a paycheck. If a guy is reciveing unemployment compensation and this outstrips the 300/week minimum wage income, he will stay on unemployment.

Additionally, minimum wage workers will generally get an increase in pay with successful competion of introductory periods or added skills.

The UAW has numerous pay rates tied to the minimum wage. When it rises, so does their wage rate.

Psssttt, Bush hasn't been president for over 6 months! Pass it on.

Yes, but the stench remains. You all continued to blame Clinton for anything and everything for the first 4 years of Bush's term. Now you can't backpeddal away from Bush fast enough.

And remember, it wasn't just Bush, it was him and the Tom Delay GOP run government from 2000-2006 specifically. When they had all the power, thats when they passed all the fucked up laws and loopholes. Nothing got done the last 2 years.

And remember when the GOP said that was a good thing? God I wish I remembered what year that was. The GOP congress didn't do shit for 2 straight years and they said, "that's a good thing".

Do you remember that? They said, "the more laws government passes, the worse they make things, so if congress didn't pass any laws, that's a good thing".

But last year they ran against a "do nothing congress" because it was run by Pelosi and Reed.

Double talkers.

last 2 sentances Bo....agree with ya....

Sorry Sealy...you're the first to make my ignore list...Obama's election has left you completely deranged.

Bobo is just a frustrated guy....many of those he put his faith in are not coming through for the guy.....so whats he to do?.....bitches to us in the day time....and goes home and rides his water ski and teabags his next door neighbor....:lol:

"Economic theory and empirical evidence suggest that a minimum wage hike would more likely affect teens than any other age group, since teens hold a large fraction of minimum wage jobs. Thus, a great deal of the literature examines the economic impact of minimum wage increases on teens. Researchers have traditionally examined teens between the ages of 16 and 19 because most nationally representative surveys only ask about the employment status for respondents who are 16 years and older. (1)

The majority of the minimum wage literature focuses on teen employment. Recent empirical studies on the impact of minimum wage hikes on teen employment are quite diverse in their data, methodologies, and findings. When these studies are grouped according to their findings, two distinct patterns emerge. Some studies find that a higher minimum wage is correlated with lower employment (Neumark and Wascher, 1996; Deere, Murphy and Welch, 1995; Kim and Taylor, 1995; Currie and Fallick, 1996), while others conclude that a higher minimum wage has insignificant or positive effects on teen employment (Wellington, 1991; Card and Krueger, 1995).

"Using data from the October School Enrollment files of the Current Population Survey (CPS), Mattila found that moderate increases in the minimum wage raised youth unemployment. However, teenagers not enrolled in school did not lose their jobs when the minimum wage increased; the persons displaced in the labor market tended to be enrolled youth. Moreover, Matilla concluded that increases in the minimum wage were positively correlated with school enrollment rates. Cunningham used decennial census data from 1960 and 1970 and found that a higher minimum wage reduced school enrollment rates for white teenagers but increased those for black teenagers. Ehrenberg and Marcus, using cross-section data from the National Longitudinal Surveys, found that minimum wage increases induced white teens from high-income families to work less, i.e. move from enrolled/employed status to enrolled/non-employed status, while enticing teens from low-income families to reduce their educational attainment, i.e. shift from enrolled/employed to non-enrolled/employed status. few people actually get minimum wage
the only people raising it effected are those union contracts that have built in raises based on the minimum wage

Actually most people on the minimum wage are over 25, at least according to the 2005 numbers.

That's right from $6.55 to $7.25, wonder how many retailers, burger stands and small business's will have to shut down due to already dwindling sales.

I guess since Pelosi and company didn't see the economic collapse coming they will not see that this is only gonna create higher unemployment since most companies will not be able to afford the increase.

Why not just bring back sweatshops or, better yet, slavery?

They're working on it.

But slavery that isn't obvious works so much better.

Most of us are already slaves to the banks and the governments anyway.

However unlike slaves of old, we are free to starve to death if we won't pick their cotton.
