Gen. Robert E. Lee and Gen. A.P. Hill stood at the Cashtown Inn, listening to the sounds of a growing battle in the distance, a few miles east, near Gettysburg. There, two Confederate infantry brigades clashed with two Union cavalry brigades and, because the armies were marching toward each other, the fighting intensified as additional troops arrived. Soon, the rest of Hill's corps hurried forward to join the fray. The largest battle in America was underway.

One of my favorite battles to game, after Waterloo and Alesia. Not one of Lee's better judgements to feed his Army in piecemeal like that.

Both Armies flowed into each other. If Early had been allowed to take the Cemetery, if Culps Hill were taken, if Chamberlain had arrived 10 minutes later on Little Round Top, etc etc the battle would have likely gone Confederate thus giving England the support to enter the war.
