It's only eminent domain if you pay the owners a reasonable price. Nassar didn't pay the Suez Company a dime for their multi-million-pound investment. He stole it by the use of armed force; all he did was to pay the stockholders the going price for their shares. So the Brits and French with a very minor assist from the Israelis stole it back for the proper, legal owners. Ike's response to pressure the Brits, French and israelis, gutten the UN forever. Here is an excerpt from the Wikki article:
The American historian Arthur L. Herman said that the episode ruined the usefulness of the United Nations to support American ideals:

Suez destroyed the United Nations as well. By handing it over to Dag Hammarskjöld and his feckless ilk, Eisenhower turned the organization from the stout voice of international law and order into at best a meaningless charade; at worst, a Machiavellian cesspool. Instead of teaching Nasser and his fellow dictators that breaking international law does not pay, Suez taught them that every transgression will be forgotten and forgiven, especially if oil is at stake. ... Suez destroyed the moral authority of the so-called world community. Fifty years later, we are all still living in the rubble.[253]

Um, I guess. The problem is, Israel went from borders it could defend to ones that gave them borders they couldn't and 6 million Palestinians inside their boundaries.

They'd have been better off not taking that land.
Wrong, prior to 1967 Israel had no defensible borders and was less than six miles wide at some points. After 1967 it had reasonably defensible borders.

being at war for 70 years is not defensible borders.
Israel has diplomatic relations with Egypt and Jordan. Syria is not a threat. The Palestinians are easily to deal with. They are gradually being forced out.

Boo-fucking-hoo. Imperial powers getting screwed is always, always, always a good thing. Come on, we didn't pay the British for all their investments when we broke away in 1776, why should Egypt?

Set up your toys on someone else's property, you will always risk them just taking them.

The problem with Suez is that the French and British goaded the Zionists into attacking, then came in to "Save the day". Except they got there before the Zionists did. It was a dirty, backroom deal, and the UN was right to shoot it down.

Except after 1967, they went from Arabs being a minority of 1/7th of the population to half the population they constantly have to keep a boot to the neck to.

That only lasts as long as QUISLINGS run Egypt and Jordan.

The one time they let Egyptians vote, they voted in the most radical Islamist they could find.
Arabs would rather blame their problems on Israel than acknowledge that they are incapable of emulating Israeli prosperity and good government.

The Israelis are finally using their boots to kick the Palestinians out. It is about time.

Yeah, when Trump was in power, you had high school classes doing this:

And of course the conservatives on this board you absolutely LOVE all minimized it.

There are dozens of others.

You're outraged enough to make a whole thread about the youth being antisemitic....but now that you find out your friends minimized it....you will too now...and suddenly your outrage is gone.

Of course you could surprise me and ask JGalt why he minimized a bunch of kids flashing the Nazi salute...but you won't. We both know it.

Your "outrage" is either completely fake or conditional. Which is it?
Wisconsin voted for Biden. That is who they support.

Why would anyone want to emulate Israel?

Jesus exists now. So do his apostles.

Really? What year was he born in? What year did he die in (or more specifically, what year was he crucified)?

Oh, that's right. You don't know because the Gospels are contradictory on that point.

No border is defensible against religious fanatics who will gladly die to kill one enemy. Israel hasn't been invaded by Arab militaries since 1973. So it has as defensible borders as any other country, far more defensible than ours.

Hmmm, inheriting a bunch of people who want to destroy you INSIDE your borders is not defensible.

Eventually, you get to a one-stage solution, and we all see how well that worked in South Africa.

The British didn't have any investments is the colonies. They didn't build any infrastructure. The North American Colonies were a dumping ground for undesirables and criminals. Once they lost access their to the Colonies, the Brits started shipping their undesirables and criminals' to Australia. Oddly enough the Brits never treated their Canadian colonies like they did the thirteen than became the United States. Possibly because Canada was worthless and didn't produce anything more than furs.

It's an apartheid state. THat's unacceptable in today's world.

It’s 30 years since apartheid ended. South Africa’s celebrations are set against growing discontent

Updated 2:25 PM EDT, April 27, 2024

PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) — South Africa marked 30 years since the end of apartheid and the birth of its democracy with a ceremony in the capital Saturday that included a 21-gun salute and the waving of the nation’s multicolored flag.

But any sense of celebration on the momentous anniversary was set against a growing discontent with the current government...

The president, who stood in front of a banner emblazoned with the word “Freedom,” also recognized the major problems South Africa still has three decades later with vast poverty and inequality, issues that will be central yet again when millions vote on May 29. Ramaphosa conceded there had been “setbacks.”...

But that hasn’t significantly improved the lives of millions, with South Africa’s Black majority that make up more than 80% of the population of 62 million still overwhelmingly affected by severe poverty.

The official unemployment rate is 32%, the highest in the world, and more than 60% for young people between the ages of 15 and 24....

In the week leading up to the anniversary, countless South Africans were asked what 30 years of freedom from apartheid meant to them. The dominant response was that while 1994 was a landmark moment, it’s now overshadowed by the joblessness, violent crime, corruption and near-collapse of basic services like electricity and water that plagues South Africa in 2024....

“Let us agree that we messed up,” Mazibuko said of the last 30 years, which have left the youngsters standing behind him directly impacted by the second-worst youth unemployment rate in the world behind Djibouti.
