Exactly right. For the judge to pretend to be shocked at the salaciousness of "Daniel's" testimony, he would have to actually believe that she was called to provide anything but salacious testimony.

He will get millions from the Democrats through his daughter if he is successful. If the Democrats figure that judges are more important than presidents in carrying out their will, and promote the Canadian-looking Merchan to a senior federal bench, he may even surpass Biden's record of receiving payoffs through his offspring.

Or . . . they might leave him along with Bragg in place as the go-to criminal court to haul their opponents into. Every national candidate has to have some business or political activity in New York, even if only staying at a Hotel. So, they can be as vulnerable as Trump to ginned up charges. Especially with an army of Stormy Daniels clones to make allegations of sex crimes at those hotels.

I don't see Merchan as a self-agrandizer like presidents and Senators. He'd be happily collecting millions for selling his relatively low-level office.
