But our discovery of planets within the solar system might not yet be over. In 2015, two astronomers from Caltech presented evidence that six objects past the orbit of Neptune were bunched together in a way that suggested they were being "herded" by something with a large gravitational pull. Despite suggestions the planet could be due to a statistical anomaly and selection bias, the team believes the objects could be moving due to the influence of a large object beyond Neptune's orbit.

In a new paper, the team looked at long-period objects that crossed the path of Neptune's orbit, finding that their closest point of orbit to the sun was around 15-30 astronomical units (AU), with one AU being the distance between the sun and the Earth.

The paper cited in the OP clearly says none of this has been observationally confirmed ... and there are plans to ""rigorously test" these hypotheses with the Vera Rubin Observatory as soon as it's up-and-running ...

I think extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and this is all statistical ... and that's about as ordinary as ordinary gets ...

We've found a TNO at 123 AUs with a diameter of 650 miles ... smaller than Texas ... {Wikicite} ... I haven't found how big this "gigantic" Planet 9 is supposed to be ... but we're picking out Texas from a billion miles ... we'd have found anything large enough to have these effects by now ...

The paper does include about a page and a half of alternative explanations ... as the authors only used objects that conformed to their hypothesis ... and I got a good laugh out of this zinger "One such possibility is Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND), and recent proposals by Brown & Mathur (2023) and Migaszewski (2023) have suggested that MOND might explain some phenomena attributed to Planet 9." ... Planet 9 proves dark matter doesn't exist? ... cool, I told you so ... long past time to re-examine epicycles ha ha ha ha ha ...

I'm stickin' with the speed of light is slowing down ... dE/dt = m dc/dt ... that's 3 nanometers give or take a couple hundred million light-years ...
