Saw this the other day.
A great movie. Its not 100% accurate but its a great story,
There is a Rorkes Drift industry in the UK. Several things seem to be agreed upon.
Mainly that the battle was played up by the govt to distract from the debacle the day before.
That is covered in the prequel Zulu Dawn.

I used to be a member of a zulu forum but kicked it into touch. Too many "experts" guarding their piece of info. Probably a bit like Custers last stand in the US.

I was originally interested in the story when I was researching a football story in Newtown Library where they have original newspapers from the period. I read an account of a local man and his flight from Islandwhana. It was terrifying and captured in Zulu Dawn.

Zulu is a great film.

Zulu is a great film.
I appreciated it for the military strategy, later, but in 1964, where else could a fourth grader white kid, watch black women dancing topless?

Don't Bring a Spear to a Gun Battle

I'd love to see a movie about South Africa's Battle of Blood River. The Whites were outnumbered 50 to one, yet they killed 3,000 savages without losing a man.

It does have good acting and a good story

But I am surprised that a God and King hating lefty like Tommy would like it

He realised that there had been a favourable article in the porn rag Guardian and then could not wait to make up some nonsensical post .

You do not win the Tommy Tithead championship by being honest .

The color sergeant was offered promotion to officer but couldn't afford it so he turned it down. Later given an honorary colonel rank (and pay) at retirement. last survivor of the battle as well.

Bromhead was almost stone deaf and suffered PTSD after the attack.

Hook (the hospital malingerer) was actually a Teetotaller and there to guard the sick in the hospital.

Chard would go on to fight at the much larger battle of Ulundi.

Hooks kids were upset about his portrayal in the film.. I think they tried to put a 60s gloss on him. I think it was one of the weaker parts of the film.
